Which seven first-team players could leave Man United before the transfer deadline?

sportsmole.co.uk, 26 July 2024, 16:20
Manchester United have boosted their squad with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer, but at least two more are expected to arrive before the transfer window closes.

Indeed, the Red Devils are said to be actively working on deals for right-back Noussair Mazraoui of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

A left-back and another centre-back could also potentially arrive, but the 20-time English champions first need to focus on outgoings, as the club are working to financial restraints.

Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek, Omari Forson, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, Shola Shoretire and Brandon Williams have already left this summer.

Here, Sports Mole looks at seven more players who could potentially leave the Red Devils before the summer transfer window closes for business.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka | Right-back

Wan-Bissaka is out of contract next summer, and the Englishman is currently being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Mazraoui potentially arriving as his replacement.

Man United paid Crystal Palace £50m for the 26-year-old in 2019, and he has represented the club on 190 occasions, including 30 appearances in all competitions last season.

Wan-Bissaka is down the pecking order when head coach Erik ten Hag has a full squad available, though, and he is believed to be available for transfer this summer.

With West Ham United seemingly missing out on a deal for Mazraoui, the Hammers may reignite their interest in the ex-Palace youngster, who is a proven performer at Premier League level.

Victor Lindelof | Centre-back

Lindelof arrived at Old Trafford from Benfica in 2017 with a big reputation, but the Sweden international has largely found it difficult to make his mark for Man United.

The 30-year-old has made 259 appearances for the club, including 28 in all competitions last term, but he would be firmly down the pecking order for the centre-back spots next term.

Indeed, Yoro and Lisandro Martinez are ahead of him, while Harry Maguire has insisted that he will be staying with Man United amid the speculation surrounding his future.

The Red Devils want to sign Bayern's Matthijs de Ligt this summer, but for that to happen, a centre-back needs to leave, and it is likely that Lindelof will be on his way out.

Casemiro | Central midfielder

Talk surrounding a potential summer exit for Casemiro has quietened in recent weeks, but it is far from certain that the ex-Real Madrid midfielder will still be at the club next season.

The Brazilian had an outstanding 2022-23 campaign after arriving from Real Madrid, but it would be fair to say that the 32-year-old found it difficult to show his best form last season.

Saudi Pro League clubs are said to be keeping a close eye on his situation, and Casemiro is thought to be open to making the move to the division this summer if the right opportunity arrives.

Casemiro is Man United's leading earner on £300,000 a week, with his deal having another two years left.

Christian Eriksen | Central midfielder

Eriksen was a regular for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, having arrived on a free transfer, but he was not first choice last season, and there was a drop off in his performance level.

The 32-year-old is out of contract next year, and it is understood that the Red Devils are willing to listen to offers for him during he current transfer window.

Eriksen, who featured on 28 occasions last term after appearing 44 times in 2022-23, had a strong Euro 2024 for Denmark and is still able to perform at this level.

However, it is certainly possible that he could leave this summer to guarantee regular starts at this stage of his career.

Jadon Sancho | Attacker

Sancho has managed to patch-up his relationship with Ten Hag this summer, and the forward featured in Man United's pre-season friendly with Rangers last weekend.

The Englishman is also with the squad in the United States, but it is far from certain that he will be remaining at Old Trafford beyond the transfer deadline.

Sancho has only managed 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions since his high-profile move to the club from Borussia Dortmund.

PSG are said to be interested in the attacker, and if the French champions come up with an offer in the region of £40m, then it is certainly possible that he will depart this summer.

Marcus Rashford | Attacker

A summer exit for Rashford is highly unlikely but certainly not impossible.

The 26-year-old was outstanding for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, which led to him signing a new and lucrative long-term contract at Old Trafford.

However, he only managed eight goals and five assists in 43 appearances last term, and there were also off-the-field problems for the Red Devils academy product.

Rashford, who was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, is said to be determined to stay at Man United this summer and move on from what has been a tough last 12 months.

However, the Red Devils will allegedly consider any serious offers which arrive for the Englishman, and a big-money bid from PSG late in the transfer window simply cannot be ruled out.

Antony | Attacker

Antony's agent recently played down suggestions that the Brazilian could leave Man United this summer.

There have been claims that he could be available on loan, providing that a club are willing to pay his substantial wages, and an exit for the 24-year-old this summer cannot be ruled out.

Antony has only managed 11 goals and five assists in 82 appearances for Man United since his arrival from Ajax.

Amad Diallo is arguably now ahead of him when it comes to the starting role down the right, while Alejandro Garnacho will be in Ten Hag's first XI next term providing that he is available.

Should Sancho and Rashford both stay, it is difficult to imagine Antony receiving too many starts next season, and the possibility of a departure could open up over the next few weeks.
