The Hammers drew 1-1 with the Magpies, denting their top-four hopes and the forward continued his poor streak infront of goal.
The Jamaica international hasn't found the back of the net in six matches, while he only has two in his last 17 Premier League appearances.
And former West Ham centre-forward Dean Ashton, a pundit for the game on talkSPORT, was left frustrated by his positioning and his decision making during the game.
Antonio had two shots off target and another blocked, while he only completed one of his three dribble attempts.
And moments after Antonio failed to even kick the ball when attempting a cross from the left, Ashton was left unimpressed.
He said: "I wish I could go down there and hand Michail Antonio a piece of paper and on it would say: 'You are a goalscorer not a playmaker. Get yourself in the box.'
"Stop worrying about making clever little runs outside the 18-yard box and getting involved as much as he has done.
"He works incredibly hard, that's absolutely right, but can he work a little bit smarter. Time and time again he's not in the box."
After a later incident, an exasperated Ashton said: "What is he doing out there?
"You've got your full-back and your winger, absolutely got things under control.
"Cresswell turns back and he's got his centre-forward as if he's like a follow-up left-back.
"Just leave it them. Get yourself into the box where that cross you put into the box ended up. That should be where you are, heading it in.
"He's only scored two in 16 games, get yourself into the box."
West Ham failed to sign any players in the January transfer window and it's looking like it may have been a big mistake, according to Ashton.
He said after the match: "I feel very strongly about that opportunity in January to freshen the squad to give it a bit more depth going into the second half of the season because of the amount of games they are going to have to play.
"If you want to make the top four you have got to keep building and winning continually.
"Look, they are in there. They are fifth. It's been a great season still but you want to finish it off if you're West Ham and you're these supporters.
"You can tell in the stadium the atmosphere towards the end was of frustration more than anything.
"There is always the effort from West Ham but they have just lacked a little bit of quality in recent weeks."
