What Bellingham has said about Liverpool with 'complete midfielder' worth £80m

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is reportedly the subject of interest from the Reds, who are said to be willing to fork out a whopping club record fee of £80million for the 18-year-old.

Despite only just starting his second season at Dortmund following his £25m move from Birmingham City - which made him the most expensive 17-year-old if football history - he is already being linked with another big transfer.

And Bellingham has unwittingly amplified the Liverpool rumours with his comments from earlier in the summer, when he compared himself to Reds legend Steven Gerrard and even said he'd like to swap shirts with him.

Asked what player in history he'd love to have swapped shifts with, the teen said in a video on the England national team's YouTube channel: "Stevie G, easily to be fair. In fact, no it is not easy, I think him or Rooney definitely close.

"But I think I would go Gerrard, though. The No.8, similar position to me, so yeah, I would probably go with him."

A club-record £80m fee for a teenager may seem like an extreme move for Liverpool, who have been hesitant to splash the cash throughout the COVID pandemic.

However, talkSPORT has been told Bellingham is worth every penny, despite his age, with former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor branding him a 'complete' player already.

"I think Jude Bellingham suits the Liverpool team," he told the talkSPORT Breakfast.

"I think he's a complete midfielder.

"The age he's at now, he's going to get better and better so it makes sense for Liverpool.

"They need to get more players in that team, they've not replaced [Gini] Wijnaldum, Harvey Elliot is a good player but they need someone like Bellingham in there.

"£80m is a lot of money but that's the way the football world is working at the moment."

Former Rangers forward Ally McCoist echoed Agbonlahor's words, adding: "He's an incredible talent.

"Talking about £80m? Crikey it's incredible.

"I agree with Gab, I think he's an immense player who will certainly boost Liverpool. He's a magical talent and he will develop into a superb player."

Whether the rumours come into fruition or not, Bellingham is undoubtedly an incredible talent.

Given Dortmund's history of producing young talent and selling them on for hefty prices, it will only be a matter of time before he is lining up in a new club shirt.
