Van de Beek holds talks with three clubs as January transfer seems inevitable

Donny van de Beek appears to be getting closer to a Manchester United exit, with three teams making contact with the midfielder.

The Dutch international struggled for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and will have hoped for a change of fortunes after Ralf Rangnick replaced the Norwegian in the dugout.

Since joining from Ajax in 2020, the 24-year-old has started just four Premier League games for United and just 19 in all competitions, with his only start under Rangnick coming in the Champions League draw against Young Boys.

Newcastle United have previously been linked with a move for the midfielder, as they look to continue adding to their squad as they fight against the drop, but they're not the only Premier League team reported to be in the mix.

Despite apparent concerns about Van de Beek's speed and strength, there are those away from Old Trafford who believe he can still develop into an effective Premier League player.

According to Algemeen Dagblad (via Sport Witness ), Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Newcastle in holding talks with the midfielder over recent months.

The Dutch publication reports that it "seems inevitable" Van de Beek will leave United before deadline day, but "roadblocks" erected by United could prove an obstacle to a move.

A long-standing issue over his representation could also end up scuppering a move, with his decision to part ways with former agent Guido Albers helping complicate matters, but the report suggests this wouldn't stop him relocating in January.

Rangnick is believed to be keen to keep Van de Beek in Manchester despite mostly using him from the bench, praising the Dutchman's efforts in training and explaining fierce competition for places is the reason for his lack of action.

"With the World Cup coming up in the winter, he wants to play for his country," the German said.

"I can understand his wish and desire to play. On the other hand, we have a lot of competition in our squad exactly in those positions."

Rangnick has held further talks with Van de Beek to discuss the player's future, with the upcoming World Cup a potential factor.

The midfielder has not featured from the Netherlands since injury forced him to miss Euro 2020, and was left out of the squad altogether for the October and November international breaks.

Newcastle's pursuit of Van de Beek comes in what threatens to be a very busy month for the club, with Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood already having completed moves to St James' Park.

Wolves ' future in midfield remains uncertain, with Ruben Neves linked with an exit and Joao Moutinho well into his thirties.

As for Everton, any move would likely hinge on the preferences of their next manager, with the Merseyside club yet to appoint a permanent successor to Rafa Benitez.
