Despite the four English teams making the 2021-22 Champions League group stages look easy, Ozdoyev created by far the biggest drama of the week, with his sublime half-volley upsetting the European champions.
The Russian's 94th minute strike meant that Zenit claimed a thrilling 3-3 home point against an injury-hit Chelsea side, sending the Blues into second place behind Juventus in Group H.
And as defending champions, that's bad news, with Chelsea's list of possible opponents in the last 16 making for uncomfortable reading, with a trio of dangerous-looking sides waiting in the draw on December 13, including Robert Lewandowski and co. at Bayern Munich.
Chelsea's possible opponents:
Lille
Bayern Munich
Real Madrid
Ajax
Teams from the same country aren't allowed to be drawn against each other until the quarter-finals, meaning Chelsea's options are extremely limited among the first-placed sides.
Out of the four options, only reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille look like a favourable pathway for the Blues, with the other three options either taking maximum points from their groups, or only just missing out.
German and Dutch league champions Ajax and Bayern Munich made history with a commanding 18 points from 18, while Real Madrid won every game bar one in a group that featured Inter Milan.
Elsewhere, Liverpool and Manchester United will be looking to avoid the runners-up in City's group, Lionel Messi's PSG, while names such as Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan will cause a fright.
Diego Simeone's Atleti are showing signs of finally coming together after years of big spending, while Antonio Conte's replacement at Inter, Simone Inzaghi, has just about restored the side to last season's Serie A-winning standard.
There's also potential banana skins waiting in Lisbon with Ruben Amorim's young and rapid Sporting on the rise, while Benfica have finally shown this year they can mix it with the big boys, beating Barcelona to the knockouts.
None of that will distract from PSG though, who, despite sitting top of Ligue 1 by 12 points, continually see questions directed at manager Mauricio Pochettino for a lack of coherent performances.
Nevertheless, Pochettino still boasts the frankly ridiculous front line of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, while the return to fitness of Sergio Ramos shows just how ready this side are to make the next step in Europe.
