Sunday's international friendly predictions including Austria vs. Italy

sportsmole.co.uk, 20 November 2022, 06:00
Bolivia vs. Peru (Sunday, 12.30am)

Two South American nations who will not be competing at the 2022 World Cup face off in a friendly fixture on Sunday as Peru welcome Bolivia to the Estadio Monumental "U" in Lima.

While the hosts currently sit 23rd in the FIFA world rankings, the visitors sit 59 places further back after slipping down to 82nd in the standings.

We say: Peru 2-1 Bolivia

Peru will be regarded as favourites following their victory over Paraguay last time out and considering Bolivia's poor run of form.

Both sides possess quality to cause problems in the final third, but we can see La Blanquirroja edging past La Verde on home soil to end the year on a high.

Colombia vs. Paraguay (Sunday, 1.00am)

Colombia will take on fellow South American nation Paraguay in a friendly encounter at the DRV PNK Stadium in Florida on Sunday.

This fixture is the final friendly for both countries before the year comes to a close, as neither will be competing at the 2022 World Cup this month.

We say: Colombia 2-0 Paraguay

Colombia have made a bright start under the tutelage of Lorenzo and they will fancy their chances of success against a goal-shy Paraguay outfit.

Even though Los Cafeteros are missing a couple of star names due to injury, they should have enough quality in their side to claim a routine win in Florida.

Slovakia vs. Chile (Sunday, 12.30pm)

Two teams that will not be present at the 2022 World Cup will lock horns in an international friendly on Sunday afternoon, as Slovakia welcome Chile to Bratislava.

The hosts will enter the contest off the back of a 2-2 draw with Montenegro on Thursday, while Chile suffered a 1-0 defeat to Poland in their last match on Wednesday.

We say: Slovakia 1-1 Chile

Chile are losing a lot of football matches at the moment, but they have a number of quality players and should provide a tough test for Slovakia in this game. We are expecting to be a close fixture on Sunday, with the spoils potentially being shared at the end of the 90 minutes.

Norway vs. Finland (Sunday, 1.00pm)

Norway will be bidding to make it back-to-back victories when they take on Finland in an international friendly on Sunday afternoon.

The home team recorded a 2-1 win over Republic of Ireland in their last match on Thursday, while Finland will enter this weekend's contest off the back of a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.

We say: Norway 2-1 Finland

Norway will enter this match off the back of a morale-boosting victory over Republic of Ireland, and we are tipping them to secure another win here. Finland are certainly a team to be taken seriously, but we believe that the home side will have enough quality to secure the bragging rights.

South Africa vs. Angola (Sunday, 1.00pm)

Seeking to pick up a sixth victory on the bounce in all competitions, Angola take a trip to the Mbombela Stadium to square off against South Africa in a friendly contest on Sunday.

The Bafana Bafana, on the other hand, will be looking to get one over the visitors after suffering defeats in their two Africa Nations Championship encounters this year.

We say: South Africa 2-1 Angola

Angola and South Africa have put together a fine run of form in recent outings and this makes for an exciting watch. While we anticipate an open contest, the Bafana Bafana boast the firepower needed to get the job done and we predict that they will come away victorious, ending their two-game losing streak against the visitors.

N. Macedonia vs. Azerbaijan (Sunday, 1.00pm)

North Macedonia welcome Azerbaijan to Skopje on Sunday in an international friendly, looking to put an end to a poor run of recent form.

The Lynxes have won just two of their last nine competitive games, while the visitors are on a four-game winning streak, the longest in their history.

We say: North Macedonia 1-1 Azerbaijan

With the lower-ranked nation in much better form here, do not be surprised to see an upset, as Gianni De Biasi's men look to make history.

North Macedonia have quality throughout their ranks, however, and should have enough to salvage a point.

Slovenia vs. Montenegro (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Slovenia and Montenegro conclude their international calendar for 2022 with a friendly in Ljubljana on Sunday afternoon.

This fixture will represent each nation's last outing before they begin their qualification campaign for Euro 2024 in March.

We say: Slovenia 1-1 Montenegro

With both nations having avoided defeat in competitive fixtures earlier this week, confidence is growing heading into this match. With that in mind, we feel that a low-scoring share of the spoils is most likely as they look to avoid defeat before the start of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

Luxembourg vs. Bulgaria (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Bulgaria will be bidding to make it four victories in a row in all competitions when they take on Luxembourg in an international friendly on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors will enter the match off the back of a 2-0 victory over Cyprus, while Luxembourg played out a 2-2 draw with Hungary in their last fixture.

We say: Luxembourg 1-1 Bulgaria

Both sides will enter this match in relatively good form, and we are expecting a close match on Sunday afternoon. There is a lot more experience in the Luxembourg squad, but Bulgaria also have plenty of quality, so we have had to settle on a low-scoring draw in this contest.

Oman vs. Belarus (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Belarus will be bidding to make it successive victories when they take on Oman in a friendly on Sunday.

The visitors will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 win over Syria on Thursday, while Oman took on Germany in a friendly on Wednesday, suffering a 1-0 loss to Hansi Flick's side.

We say: Oman 1-0 Belarus

Oman more than held their own against Germany last time out, and they are certainly a team to be respected at this level of football. We are expecting Sunday's affair to be close but believe that Oman will have enough quality to secure a narrow victory over Belarus.

Israel vs. Cyprus (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Israel will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in this international break when they host Cyprus in a friendly match on Sunday afternoon.

Two late goals against Zambia secured a 4-2 victory for Israel on Thursday evening, whereas Cyprus were defeated at home by Bulgaria on Wednesday ahead of a trip to the HaMoshava Stadium this weekend.

We say: Israel 3-0 Cyprus

Israel are coming into this clash high on confidence after a dramatic win against a good Zambia side, and will be expected to make it back-to-back wins here.

Cyprus are in a bad way of late and have not won away from home since before the pandemic halted football in 2020, so it is hard to see them posing much of a threat for their hosts on Sunday afternoon.

Moldova vs. Romania (Sunday, 6.30pm)

Moldova and Romania will be looking to get the better of each other when they renew hostilities in an international friendly at Stadionul Zimbru on Sunday.

The teams head into this weekend's meeting off the back of respective defeats and now set out to return to winning ways in their final outing of 2022.

We say: Moldova 1-3 Romania

Romania's vastly superior record in this fixture means that it is hard to envisage any other result than an away victory. While the visitors have been largely underwhelming on the road of late, we are tipping them to carry the day in this one.

Malta vs. Rep. Ireland (Sunday, 7.00pm)

Malta and Republic of Ireland conclude their international calendars for 2022 with a showdown in Ta'Qali on Sunday evening.

This is each nation's last outing before they commence their Euro 2024 qualifying campaigns in March.

We say: Malta 0-1 Republic of Ireland

On the back of their result in Greece, Malta will have every belief that they can earn a result against Republic of Ireland. Nevertheless, we expect Kenny's side to do enough to grind their way to a narrow win ahead of attempting to upset the odds in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Hungary vs. Greece (Sunday, 7.15pm)

Hungary take on Greece in an international friendly at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Sunday.

It is set to be the first meeting between the two nations since 2018, and the game will serve as match practice before Euro 2024 qualifying begins in March next year.

We say: Hungary 2-0 Greece

Hungary have proven themselves as more of a force in recent times, qualifying for Euro 2020 and putting up a good fight against strong teams. As such, they should run out comfortable winners, especially considering Greece could not beat Malta in their last match.

Austria vs. Italy (Sunday, 7.45pm)

Concluding a year in which both nations missed out on a place at the World Cup, Austria and Italy meet on Sunday evening in Vienna.

While the Azzurri rebounded from another qualifying failure to win their Nations League group, and then beat Albania in midweek, their hosts have been relegated to League B and only scraped past Andorra last time out.

We say: Austria 0-1 Italy

Despite the mercurial presence of Serie A star Arnautovic, Austria have struggled to score of late - finding the net just four times in their last six matches. As a few tweaks to the Azzurri's formation and personnel seem to be paying dividends, Italy can finish a largely dismal 2022 with victory in Vienna.

St Lucia vs. San Marino (Sunday, 8.00pm)

Saint Lucia and San Marino will square off on Sunday in the second consecutive international friendly between the countries in quick succession.

The previous contest between the two sides finished in a 1-1 draw on Friday at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground.

We say: Saint Lucia 1-1 San Marino

Given the similarity in quality between the two sides, we would not be surprised to see a repeat of Friday's result at the weekend.
