Securing a spot in the Euro 2024 play-offs, the Tartan Army had a major clue that it would be their night after just seven minutes when Andriy Yarmolenko missed an open goal from six yards.

The ex-West Ham United star was leading the line for Ukraine in Krakow in a clash that his country have to win in order to pip the Tartan army in securing promotion to Group A.

The 32-year-old, who now plays for Al Ain, was played in by Mykhalio Mudryk after some fine work down the left flank, squaring the ball across the penalty area to the forward.
Unfortunately Yarmolenko got his effort all wrong from six yards out as he sent his effort flying over the top of Craig Gordon's crossbar.
The sitter occurred just six minutes into the clash, but according to Scotland Women's captain Rachel Corsie, the chance was one that the ex-Hammer will be keen to forget.
Speaking on talkSPORT 2's commentary, Corsie said: "I can't believe he's missed. The whole goal is gaping and he's got so much quality that he just needs to cushion that into the net.

"It's a huge let-off for Scotland.

"I'm not quite sure why the backline is so far across there but Yarmolenko is wide open and has to score that.
"It's an absolute sitter and it's a warning sign for Scotland."

Ukraine certainly enjoyed the better of the match in Krakow with Taras Stepanenko twice going close.
However a resilient defensive display from Steve Clarke's side left the Ukrainians frustrated and secured promotion to Group A in the Nations League where they'll replace arch-rivals England following their relegation this week.
