In midweek he claimed his former side would be 'three or four nil' down at half-time if they played like they had done in the Champions League against Atalanta.
And guess what?
United conceded four goals in the first 45 minutes of a Premier League game for the first time in their history, with the result all the more damning as it came at Old Trafford against their fierce rivals.
Naby Keita opened the scoring before Diogo Jota put the Reds 2-0 up after 13 minutes, with Mohamed Salah then making it four at the break.
Fans left Old Trafford at half-time as boos rang out, with Salah completing a hat-trick in a second half, while Paul Pogba was sent off.
United had achieved a huge result earlier in the week when they came back from 2-0 down to beat Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League, but Scholes wasn't satisfied post-match.
The United legend was worried by his team's first-half battering by the Italian side, and made a startling prediction which came true against Liverpool.
"The first half really worried me," Scholes said on Wednesday night. "People are going to say I'm miserable and I'll probably get slagged off by Man United fans.
"But I looked at that game thinking about Liverpool on Sunday, in that first half United were all over the place, they were disjointed, they had the two midfield players playing on their own.
"Now if you do that against Manchester City or Liverpool… half-time it will be three or four nil, you'll be out of the game, you're not coming back."
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now under intense pressure to keep his job, despite earlier reports that the club have dismissed agents helping to sign a replacement such as Antonio Conte or Zinedine Zidane.
United were equally humiliated last season when Tottenham picked up a 6-1 win at an empty Old Trafford.
Another United legend was just as disappointed on the day, with Roy Keane predicting that it wouldn't take long for the players to let Solskjaer down again.
"These are the same players that threw [Jose] Mourinho under the bus and they will do exactly the same to Ole," Keane said.
"Leopards don't change their spots, there's too many bluffers at this club to get United back to the very top."
And now Solskjaer's future looks to be in serious doubt, despite the apparent backing of the club in days gone by.
