Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo

sportsmole.co.uk, 2 September 2023, 05:50
NY City vs. Vancouver (Saturday, 8.30pm)

New York City FC have a chance to win back-to-back MLS encounters for the first time since April when they welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps to Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

The Boys in Blue ended a five-match domestic winless run on Wednesday, defeating CF Montreal 2-0, while the Caps won their second successive road fixture in midweek, claiming a 1-0 triumph over the Chicago Fire.

We say: New York City FC 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps

Both teams are coming off impressive performances in midweek, with each having plenty to play for at this stage of the campaign.

Overall, Vancouver have been the more consistent of the two, but it seems like the Pigeons' are starting to gel as a unit at a critical juncture, so we expect a stalemate from two sides in high spirits.

Cincinnati vs. Orlando City (Sunday, 12.30am)

FC Cincinnati will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the MLS standings when they play host to Orlando City at the TQL Stadium on Sunday morning.

The Lions have failed to win any of the last four meetings between the sides since October 2021 and will head into the weekend looking to end this poor run.

We say: FC Cincinnati 2-1 Orlando City

Orlando City have put together a fine run of form in the league but will expect a sterner challenge against a rampant Cincinnati side. The Orange and Blue have made their home turf a fortress this season and it is difficult seeing Pareja's side leaving the TQL Stadium with anything this weekend.

DC United vs. Chicago Fire (Sunday, 12.30am)

DC United and Chicago Fire go in search of a much-needed victory when they face off at Audi Field on Sunday in the latest round of Major League Soccer action.

The home side are currently on a run of four straight defeats across all competitions, while the visitors head into this weekend's affair aiming to avoid a sixth straight loss.

We say: DC United 1-0 Chicago Fire

Goals have been hard to come by for both teams of late, and we can see Sunday's contest turning out to be a low-scoring one. We also back the home side to scrape a narrow win come the end of the 90 minutes.

Montreal vs. Columbus Crew (Sunday, 12.30am)

CF Montreal will welcome back a familiar face to Saputo Stadium this weekend as they begin a three-game homestand on Saturday when they battle the Columbus Crew.

Le CFM had a three-match winning run in MLS end on Wednesday, losing 2-0 at New York City FC, while the Crew were beaten domestically for the first time since mid-July, 2-0 against the Houston Dynamo.

We say: CF Montreal 1-2 Columbus Crew

Trading away a couple of centre-backs in Camacho and Kamal Miller earlier this season has left Le CFM relatively thin at that position, and fatigue could play a factor for that backline this weekend given how much they still have to play for and so much defensive inexperience on this roster outside of their new back three.

Nancy knows this Montreal side well and should be able to create an effective game plan to expose his former team on the counter.

New England vs. Austin (Sunday, 12.30am)

New England Revolution will be looking to make it four league wins on the bounce when they welcome Austin FC to Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

On the other hand, the away side make the journey to Foxborough seeking to end an abysmal run of five straight defeats across all competitions.

We say: New England Revolution 3-1 Austin FC

New England Revolution's home form heading into this one means that it is hard to look beyond them as favourites. We are tipping the hosts to come away with maximum points at the end of the 90 minutes.

Dallas vs. Atlanta (Sunday, 1.30am)

FC Dallas look to return to winning ways in MLS when they welcome Atlanta United to Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.

Cows have hit a rough patch in their season, while playoff hopefuls Atlanta seek to consolidate their spot in those coveted positions in the table.

We say: Dallas 1-1 Atlanta United

Dallas have won three of their last four at home, but that run could end this weekend, with Atlanta eking out a point at Toyota Stadium.

Kansas vs. St Louis City (Sunday, 1.30am)

The latest round of matches in the 2023 Major League Soccer season see Sporting Kansas City and St Louis City lock horns at the Children's Mercy Park on Sunday.

Both teams came out on top in their most recent outings and will head into this weekend's meeting with the wind in their respective sails.

We say: Sporting Kansas City 2-1 St Louis City

St. Louis City have found life difficult on the road, and Sporting Kansas will be looking to further compound their visitors' away woes. We are tipping the home side to get the job done, albeit by only a narrow margin.

Nashville vs. Charlotte FC (Sunday, 1.30am)

Winless in their last three outings across all competitions, Nashville SC entertain the challenge of Charlotte FC at Geodis Park on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the away side make the journey aiming to continue their upturn in form, which has seen them win five of their last seven matches.

We say: Nashville SC 2-1 Charlotte FC

The teams boast nearly identical records in front of goal, but Nashville have a significant upper hand defensively, and as a result, we are tipping the home side to get the job done here.

Salt Lake vs. Colorado (Sunday, 2.30am)

Real Salt Lake will be looking to bolster their MLS playoff hopes when they play host to Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.

At a time when the home side sit in sixth position in the Western Conference standings, the visitors have already been cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

We say: Real Salt Lake 2-0 Colorado Rapids

With both teams having lost each of their last two league matches, this could be a closer game than some anticipate. That said, home advantage could prove key for Real Salt Lake to get back on track, and a goal in each half could secure maximum points.

LA Galaxy vs. Houston (Sunday, 3.30am)

The Los Angeles Galaxy will play three of their next four MLS encounters at Dignity Health Sports Park, beginning on Saturday when they host the Houston Dynamo.

Since exiting the Leagues Cup at the end of July, the Galaxy have won two straight domestic fixtures, edging the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 in midweek, while Orange Crush are unbeaten in four consecutive MLS affairs after blanking the Columbus Crew 2-0.

We say: Los Angeles Galaxy 1-2 Houston Dynamo

The Galaxy seem to have found their scoring touch, but they have not shown the ability to keep the ball out of their own net consistently all year, and that is a significant concern when facing a side in Houston who are starting to make their opportunities count.

Earthquakes vs. Minnesota Utd (Sunday, 3.30am)

Two teams battling for Major League Soccer Play-Off spots will meet this weekend when San Jose Earthquakes look to recover from their midweek loss by hosting Minnesota United.

The visitors currently sit just above their opponents in the league table, but with only goal difference between them, there is plenty on the line in this particular fixture.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 1-2 Minnesota United

With only goal difference to split them in the league table, there is likely going to be very little between these two teams at the weekend in what should be a competitive match.

However, the recent run of Minnesota United coupled with their strong away form could be enough for them to just edge three points here.

Seattle vs. Portland (Sunday, 3.30am)

The Seattle Sounders can end a five-match winless run in MLS play versus the Portland Timbers when the two sides square off at Lumen Field Saturday in the final Cascadia Cup clash between both sides this season.

A goal in the latter stages on Wednesday gave Seattle their first victory since the Leagues Cup, 2-1 over Austin FC, while the Timbers ended a four-match winless run in all competitions thanks to a 2-1 victory versus Real Salt Lake.
