Saturday's MLS predictions including LAFC vs. LA Galaxy

sportsmole.co.uk, 16 September 2023, 05:50
NY City vs. NY Red Bulls (Saturday, 8.30pm)

The final Hudson River Derby of 2023 takes place on Saturday at Yankee Stadium as the New York Red Bulls make the short trip to the Bronx to battle New York City FC.

It will be the third match in a five-game homestand for the Boys in Blue, who played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-1 draw the last time out, putting them 12th in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, a point above the Red Bulls, with the latter losing 4-1 to the Philadelphia Union.

We say: New York City FC 2-0 New York Red Bulls

It is a real possibility that both New York clubs will miss the MLS Cup playoffs in the same season for the first time, as we are nearing closer to now or never time for each.

Many of their encounters this year have not gone their way, but NYCFC have created more scoring opportunities from one match to another when compared to the Red Bulls, and that is why we believe the home side will triumph on Saturday.

Atlanta vs. Inter Miami (Saturday, 10.00pm)

Atlanta United will be hoping to take a step closer to securing their place in the final series when they take on Inter Miami at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the MLS on Saturday night.

The hosts are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with six games left to play in the regular season, while the visitors are down in 14th, though they do have a couple of games in hand on the sides above them.

We say: Atlanta United 2-3 Inter Miami

With both these sides finding the net relatively easily of late while also shipping their fair share at the other end of the pitch, this has the makings of a goal fest. However, with excellent form over the last few months, we feel the visitors will manage to outscore their opponents.

Charlotte FC vs. DC United (Sunday, 12.30am)

Charlotte FC welcome DC United to the Bank of America Stadium in MLS on Saturday in an important game for both sides.

The two are well in the mix for the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, with very little to split the sides heading into the remaining few weeks of the regular season.

We say: Charlotte FC 2-2 DC United

As neither side has enjoyed the winning feeling that often recently, another tie could be on the cards in this important clash for ninth place.

In all three MLS meetings between the two sides, the home side on the day has won 3-0, but Charlotte's leaky defence makes a clean sheet look unlikely.

Montreal vs. Chicago Fire (Sunday, 12.30am)

With a massive three points up for grabs in the MLS playoff race, CF Montreal will host the Chicago Fire at Saputo Stadium on Saturday in their second of three successive matches at home.

Le CFM were beaten 4-2 in their previous encounter by the Columbus Crew, as they are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference, two points above the Fire for a playoff spot after Chicago were hammered 4-0 by DC United.

We say: CF Montreal 2-0 Chicago Fire

Throughout the 2023 domestic campaign, Le CFM have been relatively solid defensively at Saputo Stadium with eight clean sheets, and we believe they will be able to contain a Chicago side that have been poor both defensively and in the attack since the end of the Leagues Cup.

Orlando City vs. Columbus Crew (Sunday, 12.30am)

Columbus Crew travel south to Florida to face Orlando City at the Exploria Stadium in MLS on Saturday night.

Both clubs look certain to qualify for the quarter-finals of the playoffs directly, with the two currently inside the top five of the Eastern Conference.

We say: Orlando City 2-1 Columbus Crew

Strong home form makes Orlando the favourites for this one, as they are unbeaten in nine at the Exploria Stadium.

Five wins in a row here against Columbus is another positive omen, but they have all been by one-goal margins, so another close encounter could be in store between two in-form sides.

Philadelphia vs. Cincinnati (Sunday, 12.30am)

Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati return to action in Major League Soccer when they go head to head at Subaru Park on Sunday morning.

The Union are currently on a run of six consecutive home wins in the league and will head into the weekend looking to keep the juggernaut rolling.

We say: Philadelphia Union 2-1 FC Cincinnati

Philadelphia Union and Cincinnati have enjoyed a solid campaign and find themselves at the upper echelons of the Eastern Conference table. The Union's home record in this fixture makes them slight favourites and we see them claiming all three points in this one.

Toronto vs. Vancouver (Sunday, 12.30am)

Toronto can win consecutive league fixtures for the first time all year when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at BMO Field, in the final all-Canadian matchup of the 2023 MLS regular season.

The Reds ended a 10-match losing run in all competitions in their previous encounter, defeating the Philadelphia Union 3-1, while the Caps have points in three successive road fixtures, playing to a 1-1 draw with New York City FC.

We say: Toronto 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

Vancouver are undefeated in five encounters against the Eastern Conference this season, and they look like a well-oiled machine across the board right now, while their key attacking threats remain in fine form.

One solid performance is not enough to change the fortunes of Toronto, who have been very inconsistent, while their leaky defence could be under duress against a Vancouver squad that are deadly in transition.

Dallas vs. Seattle (Sunday, 1.30am)

Major League Soccer returns with a fresh set of fixtures as Dallas and Seattle Sounders go head to head at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday morning.

Both sides, who were involved in a share of the spoils in their last outings before the international break, will look to take the positives from those results and return to winning ways.

We say: Dallas 1-1 Seattle Sounders

Dallas and Seattle Sounders have struggled for results in recent weeks and will head into the weekend in search of a pick-me-up. Both sides are closely matched on paper and we predict they will cancel out each other's efforts in this one.

Houston vs. St Louis City (Sunday, 1.30am)

The action continues in Major League Soccer as Houston Dynamo and St Louis City go head to head at the Shell Energy Stadium on Sunday morning.

Bradley Carnell's men head into the weekend on a run of five consecutive away games without a win and will be looking to end this poor run.

We say: Houston Dynamo 2-1 St Louis City

Houston Dynamo will be backing themselves to return to winning ways this weekend as they take on a St Louis side who have failed to win any of their last five away matches. The Orange Crush have won their last four home games across all competitions and we see them scraping a narrow victory in this one.

Minnesota Utd vs. Kansas (Sunday, 1.30am)

Minnesota United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when they play a struggling Sporting Kansas City side at Allianz Field on Saturday evening in MLS.

The hosts are looking good to finish inside the top nine of the Western Conference as the regular season reaches its conclusion, whereas Sporting KC still have work to do in order to make the playoffs.

We say: Minnesota United 2-1 Sporting Kansas City

Despite Minnesota's struggles to earn maximums at Allianz Field this year, the Loons are currently on a good run in front of their home faithful and should be confident of extending it on Saturday evening.

Sporting KC have conceded seven goals in their last two outings in all competitions, and we are expecting a third straight away defeat for Vermes's men this weekend.

Colorado vs. New England (Sunday, 2.30am)

Colorado Rapids will be looking to pick up their first victory of any form since July when they welcome New England Revolution to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday evening in MLS.

The hosts are rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference with extremely slim hopes of reaching the playoffs, whilst New England have been struggling with off-field issues of late, which may derail their Supporters' Shield push.

We say: Colorado Rapids 0-2 New England Revolution

Colorado are beginning a new era without Fraser at the helm, but we are not expecting drastic improvements from the Rapids against a New England side who are fighting for the Supporters' Shield.
