Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney make first Wrexham appearance since takeover

When Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham earlier this year it ensured the Welsh side's every movement would be monitored closely.

Sure enough headlines soon wrote themselves following the appointment of a high-profile manager in Phil Parkinson, addition of a sprinkling of established EFL players, the sponsorship by TikTok and the team's inclusion on the worldwide-popular FIFA video game series.

Plus, let's not forget a new TV documentary focusing on the club's rapid rise to stardom in their quest to end a 13-year exile from the EFL.

Despite all that occurring at the non-league club, the new owners had yet to actually see their investment in the flesh.

On Tuesday night, that long wait ended.

Reynolds and McElhenney made their way to watch the Dragons for the first time in their National League game away at Maidenhead.

The duo arrived at Maidenhead's York Road stadium before kickoff and soaked up the atmosphere of a Tuesday night in the National League alongside supporters.

McElhenney in particular appears to have gotten in the spirit, sporting a Wrexham club jacket with the initials RMC emblazoned on it.

They were also followed by film crews, no doubt footage will likely have been taken to add into the aforementioned documentary.

When asked to elaborate on their plans for the club back in July, Reynolds simply said: "Huge: promotion, promotion, promotion."

Speaking to Sky earlier this year, Reynolds shed further light on what he and McElhenney wanted to do once travel restrictions would allow them to finally visit Wales.

He said: "I think the first thing we're going to do is we're going to go to the Racecourse and just spend some time on the ground and just kind of try to absorb as much of the legacy as we can of the club and Wrexham.

"And then we're going to jump into the community as much as we can. You know, I'm excited to just be in the town and experience all that the town has to offer."

As well as the York Road clash, the pair are expected to be in attendance for their first home game on Saturday, when Torquay United visit the Racecourse Ground.

A new viewing platform has been erected in one of the stands, thought to be where the A-list pair will view the game from.

Prior to the encounter, Parkinson's side had made a decent if not spectacular start to the league campaign. But the new owners' presence didn't manage to inspire Wrexham as they fell to a 3-2 defeat.

Parkinson's side are now six points off the play-offs after a third defeat from 11 league games.
