Richards leaves Lineker in hysterics with Super Bowl story - best night ever

The former Manchester City and Aston Villa star is now a popular pundit and was working for broadcaster CBS in Sin City on Super Bowl weekend, telling talkSPORT that he was only there to see Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

But despite starting work at 11am, 'Big Meeks' decided to take a walk down the strip at 1am where he started 'one of the best nights of his life'.

Speaking to Gary Lineker on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said: "I am with [former Arsenal striker Thierry] Henry, [host Kate] Abdo, the producers and everyone knows what Big Meeks is like - I like to get in a little bit of trouble every now and again.

"I just thought 'do I keep it professional and stay in or do I go for a little wander'?

"So it's about 1am in the morning, I go for a little wander down the strip. We're staying in the Virgin Hotels. One of my old mates is staying at the Wynn. I go there and have a few drinks."

Richards, who works for the broadcaster on European football nights, was there to promote the channel's coverage given it was broadcasting the event on America's sporting calender.

"It's then 4 or 5am in the morning in the morning and I am thinking to myself 'we have got media at 11am'. What do I do here?"

It's only light stuff, we're talking about the Champions League, promoting that and then the Super Bowl."

Richards continued: "And then we went to a place, I'm not naming no places but wowsers. Gary, do you want me to spell it out for you? The scenery was like... Oh my god.

"So bare in mind we have got to go to media in the morning. And everybody thinks I have gone to sleep. And you know Big Meeks isn't going to sleep at that time.

"So I get there in the morning and everyone was like 'how was your night, this that and the other and good sleep'? And I was like 'yeah, I went to sleep really early, I couldn't find anything to do. I went downstairs to get a drink' - they all thought I stayed in.

"But they don't know I had one of the best nights of my life. Everyone thought I had a jet lag, it had nothing to do with jet lag, it was because I was out until 8am.

"God bless America that's all I'm going to say!"

It was a star studded weekend and Vegas was the place to be for anyone who wanted to party. On the field, the Kansas City Chiefs stunned the San Francisco 49ers in overtime to win back-to-back Super Bowls, while Usher performed with Alicia Keys at half-time.

Kelce, the tight end, who is dating popstar Swift, vowed in the aftermath they would be going for three in a row, which no team has managed before.

He, along with his teammates and Swift then partied into the early hours as revellers, including Richards, drank the place dry.
