Red Bull Salzburg have apologised to Sevilla over a foul-mouthed dressing room chant in the aftermath of their historic Champions League triumph.
The Austrian champions qualified for the competition's knockout stages for the very first time after Noah Okafor netted the only goal of the game in a shock 1-0 win over the 10-men of Sevilla.
Salzburg wrote their name into the history books as they became the first Austrian team to reach the last 16 of the Champions League since Strum Graz back in 2000.
French club Lille topped the group following a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg as Matthias Jaissle's side claimed the runners-up spot in Group G and Sevilla were once again left to battle it out in the Europa League.
The landmark result sparked scenes of passionate celebration in the Salzburg dressing room, but the Austrian outfit have since issued an apology after footage emerged of a rousing speech which contained expletives aimed at their Spanish opposition.
It is understood that "Spanish w****r" was overhead during the celebrations.
Taking to Twitter to address the video, Salzburg stated: "In the emotion of what was for us such an extraordinary success, words were uttered that should not have been.
"Today we played against a strong and fair opponent to whom we sincerely apologise for the choice of words. Excuse us."
The Austrians followed it up by graciously commending their opponents from Wednesday night and wishing them luck for the remainder of the campaign.
The club added: "Thank you/muchas gracias Sevilla! What a pleasure it was to battle again with an absolute top-quality team! All the best for the rest of the season!"
With an average age of 23, Salzburg created even more history on the night as they became the youngest team to ever qualify from the Champions League group stage.

Speaking after the match, Salzburg's American midfielder Brenden Aaronson said: "There's so many emotions that go into it. I think I already lost my voice and the celebrations are starting. It's so well deserved, this group deserves it, this club deserves it and it's an amazing, amazing feeling.
"It was very hard. Sevilla are a world class team and they've won Europa Leagues, they've won all these top trophies so it was such a hard game for us but to come through and get the win like we did is amazing and I'm proud of the boys.
"I think we just finished our chance when we got it, I don't think we had too many clean looks on goal but we got it, we scored and we won.
Aaronson added: "I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight. I'm just so excited."
Salzburg will find out their Champions League Round of 16 opponents on Monday when the draw for the next round takes place in Nyon, Switzerland.
Six-time Europa League winners Sevilla will also discover their fate on Monday after finding themselves once again in Europe's secondary competition following Wednesday night's damning defeat.
