Manchester United's summer signing Raphael Varane has revealed that he felt as if he couldn't celebrate winning the Champions League at former side Real Madrid.
Varane ended his 10-year stay with Los Blancos this summer and secured a £32million move to United, although a large chunk of his first season in England has been spent treating a hamstring injury.
The World Cup winning defender won a staggering four Champions League titles with Madrid as the galacticos enjoyed a dominant era in Europe.
However the Frenchman has now opened up about not being able to celebrate, causing him to seek 'change'.
Will Raphael Varane inspre trophy success at Manchester United? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Varane detailed his time at Madrid, and also admitted he wants to inspire United back to their very best, but the Frenchman had a strange admission about his Champions League successes in the Spanish capital.
Varane said: "After winning the Champions League, the fans don't congratulate you. It was 'OK, the next one' after the first one I won. Four Champions Leagues! And they tell me, 'OK, go to the next one'.
"I just want to say sometimes you have to enjoy what you have. It was good!"
Varane went on to explain that this was also due to a winning mentality at the club, but it did lead him to wonder whether a change of scene would be refreshing, which is likely to have forced his decision to join United this summer.
"A party all together? Some trophies yes, but not always because after, for example, the last Champions League we had the World Cup. Sometimes I wanted to push the pause button, find some time to celebrate.
"That's why Madrid are special. It's because of this special mentality too. It's different. That's why I wanted to change, not because I don't like this mentality or because it's bad. It's very good, but I just wanted to try something different."
There hasn't been much for Varane to celebrate this season, as even France's Nations League victory was marred for the defender due to an injury sustained in the match, and United have been poor so far this campaign.
However, Ralf Rangnick is now in charge and his refreshing style of play is expected to lift United, and the German will be relieved as Varane is on the verge of returning from injury.
United have never been too dominant in Europe, but with Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the side, anything is possible due to the Champions League experience they both share.
If United were to achieve success in Europe against the odds, the fans would certainly not take it for granted, and Varane would undoubtedly get the celebration he has been craving if glory is brought back to Old Trafford.
