Pulisic's dad opens up on "sad" Chelsea situation and hints at transfer away

Christian Pulisic's father has taken to social media to voice his frustration with his son's current situation at Chelsea.

Pulisic has endured a difficult campaign for the Blues, with Thomas Tuchel using the American forward sporadically. The 23-year-old has made 33 appearances across all competitions, but 17 of those have come from the substitutes' bench.

Part of the reason for his lack of consistent game time has been an ankle injury and coronavirus, but now fully fit, Pulisic is still finding himself on the bench at Chelsea. He has not played a full 90-minute match since the 4-0 win over Burnley back on March 5 - a game in which Pulisic starred with a goal and an assist.

Sunday saw a continuation of this theme, with Pulisic left on the bench for Chelsea's Premier League away game against Everton. By the time he was summoned by Tuchel in the 68th minute, the away side were 1-0 down and Pulisic could not help turn things around as Frank Lampard's side held on for a valuable win.

Following the game, the American international's dad, Mark Pulisic, took to Twitter to vent his annoyance. He tweeted : "The sad thing is he loves this club, teammates, and London.… puts his heart and soul into being a pro. Onwards and upwards my boy…big 6 months ahead.."

Pulisic has contributed seven goals and two assists in all competitions for Chelsea this season. He joined the club in a £58million transfer from Borussia Dortmund back in January 2019 and has gone on to amass 24 goals and 18 assists in 111 matches altogether.

It now appears that Pulisic is unhappy with his status in the Chelsea pecking order after Tuchel made it clear recently that Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Mason Mount are his first-choice attacking trio. That has left Pulisic, Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech on the sidelines. Gazzetta Dello Sport reported last month that Juventus were keeping an eye on Pulisic's situation with a view to a possible summer transfer when the window opens on July 1.

Chelsea are third in the Premier League with four matches remaining against Wolves, Leeds, Leicester and Watford. Tuchel hinted in his post-match interview at Everton that changes to his line-up could be coming in upcoming games.

"We have now four matches in the last two weeks and one clean sheet, that needs to change," he said. "If we try to get away with OK performances that is not good for us, we are a team that needs to be on the very top limit on every match basis. If we try to get away with OK we lose games. We struggle with concentration and determination levels and you see that in the last four matches."
