The former Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton had been playing for Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor.
Atsu also featured for the Ghanaian national team during his career, making 60 appearances for his country.

17 of his international appearances came alongside Partey, who wore an undershirt with a message to Atsu during Arsenal's game on Saturday.
After the full-time whistle, the midfielder took his shirt off to reveal the words: "Rest well Christian Atsu."
It was a touching tribute from the 29-year-old after what was a dramatic afternoon in north London.
Partey played a crucial role in his side's win that saw them come from behind to seal a massive three points.
