Mourinho to raid Man Utd for left-back cover after Leonardo Spinazzola injury

New Roma boss Jose Mourinho is looking to add Manchester United's Alex Telles this summer as he seeks cover for the injured Leonardo Spinazzola.

The Portuguese left-back has spent less than 12 months at Old Trafford but the Red Devils are prepared to cash in.

Telles struggled for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer due to the impressive form of Luke Shaw following his £15.4m move from Porto.

As a result the 28-year-old could now be loaned out to Roma, according to reports in Italy.

United though are seeking to offload Telles in a permanent deal, but the Serie A outfit only need the player for the upcoming season.

Regular left-back Spinazzola, a star at Euro 2020, will be out for between seven and nine months with a torn achilles tendon.

It means Roma do not require Telles' services beyond next season.

The United man, who only made 24 appearances last term, has experience on Italian football having spent a season on loan at Inter Milan from Galatasaray, before he moved to Porto.

Telles has recently opened up about his debut season in Manchester.

He told the official club website: "Yes, I believe I've made the most of this season, I've learnt a great deal, I learnt a lot of things, I've developed as a player and a person as well."

The left-back was also confident about his second season at Old Trafford, adding : "I'm really happy with my first season at United and I'm sure that next season will be even better.

"I think I always took the opportunity to do my best whenever I was on the pitch. I had good games, with the adaptation process the first season isn't easy.

"But I believe that when Ole gave me the opportunity and placed his trust in me and put me on the pitch, I did my best.

Mourinho has already spoken of his desire to understand his players at Roma but laid down his expectations.

He said: "The first step is to know the group. I can't change something before knowing the players. Some principles are not negotiable. Today is the first training session and I want the players to understand how we work straight away.

"I always want 100 per cent from everybody.

"I spent the quarantine at Trigoria, so I had a chance to speak to many people and I saw a great desire to work together, that was a great feeling."
