Mohamed Salah gets bizarre assist 90 seconds into Egypt's AFCON opener

The Liverpool talisman was less than two minutes into his Africa Cup of Nations campaign before getting stuck in.

A cross from out wide against Mozambique fell to Salah in the area, and despite completely miss-controlling the ball he still ended up with an assist.

Salah swung his left boot at the ball, and it bobbled through his legs before ending up at the feet of Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed who swept home.

The match should be an easy three points for Egypt in Group B, with the northeast African side ranked firth in the completion, with Mozambique 24th.

The group also contains four-time winners Ghana and Cape Verde.

Record seven-time winners Egypt are hoping for their first title since 2010, and first with Salah as captain.

The Liverpool star has twice made it to the final in 2017 and 2021, but suffered heartbreak both times, most recently against Sadio Mane's Senegal.

Overall, Salah has played three AFCONs, recording six goals and three assists in 17 games.
