Salah is said to be demanding £400,000-a-week to sign a contract extension at Liverpool.

The Telegraph reported recently that the forward is willing to sign fresh terms but only if he can double his current wage and become the Premier League's top earner.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is currently the highest paid player in England.

The Athletic has claimed that despite concerns over the length of time taken during negotiations, it is Salah's 'preference to remain' at Anfield.

Liverpool have recently announced extensions for Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But Salah, who is the joint-second highest earner at the club according to Spotrac, is still yet to ink fresh terms due to apparent frustrations at how easily City made De Bruyne the Premier League's most-paid player.

It is claimed that 'Salah feels as though he is yet to reach his prime' and the former Roma star is an outstanding professional, capable of playing well into his 30s.

The sticking point for Liverpool is that they are 'reluctant to pay what he feels he is worth' due to the precedent it would set in changing the club's wage structure.

And according to The Times, 'negotiations have reached a stalemate' with further talks expected later in the season.

Salah netted a wonderful hat-trick in Liverpool's 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the Old Trafford blockbuster, Salah said he hopes to see out his career at Anfield.

He said: "If you ask me, I would love to stay (at Liverpool) until the last day of my football career, but I can't say much about that — it's not in my hands.

"It depends on what the club want, not on me.

"At the moment I can't see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. It's hard, I don't want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad."

Following the win over United, Klopp was asked about Salah's future again and said he 'knows the situation', suggesting the club is making headway in their talks.

Klopp said: "Mo deals with the fuss that everyone makes around him [so well].

"He enjoys his football and long, long, long, may it continue. I knew already [he wants to end his career here], I know the situation."
