Manchester United transfer rumours: Who could leave this summer? Rating every possible exit

sportsmole.co.uk, 3 June 2024, 08:00
A number of players are expected to be on their way out of Manchester United this summer, with the club making huge changes under the guidance of new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

There will be departures on free transfers, while players under contract will also be moved on, with the Red Devils bidding to put together a squad capable of being challengers for the major trophies once again.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at which players could depart the 20-time English champions before the end of the summer transfer window.

Who could Man United sell this summer?

Casemiro

Age: 32

Position: Central midfielder

Rumoured asking price: £30m

Transfer value: £17m

Career appearances: 586

Career goals: 59

Honours

Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior (1): 2010

Copa Sudamericana (1): 2012

La Liga (3): 2016-17, 2019-20, 2021-22

Copa del Rey (1): 2013-14

Spanish Super Cup (3): 2017, 2019-20, 2021-22

UEFA Champions League (5): 2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2021-22

UEFA Super Cup (3): 2016, 2017, 2022

FIFA Club World Cup (3): 2016, 2017, 2018

South American Under-17 Championship (1): 2009

FIFA Under-20 World Cup (1): 2011

South American Under-20 Championship (1): 2011

Casemiro excelled for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, but he struggled to show his best form in 2023-24, and a departure for the Brazil international this summer is probable.

A switch to another European team is unlikely, but a number of clubs from Saudi Arabia are said to be interested, with Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal believed to be at the head of the queue for his signature.

Our verdict: Likely

Jadon Sancho

Age: 24

Position: Attacker

Rumoured asking price: £50m

Transfer value: £25.6m

Career appearances: 243

Career goals: 65

Honours

DFB-Pokal (1): 2020-21

DFF-Supercup (1): 2019

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FIFA Under-17 World Cup (1): 2017

Sancho spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund after the breakdown of his relationship with Man United head coach Erik ten Hag.

BVB are keen to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis this summer, but there have been claims that Man United want as much as £50m for his signature, with the situation currently at a standstill.

Our verdict: Likely

Mason Greenwood

Age: 22

Position: Attacker

Rumoured asking price: £40m

Transfer value: £12.8m

Career appearances: 166

Career goals: 46

Greenwood is unlikely to represent Man United again, with the Red Devils said to be hopeful of selling their academy product for around £40m during the summer market.

Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are among the teams to be linked with the 22-year-old, but a recent report claimed that the forward wants to return to Getafe for the 2024-25 campaign, having impressed while on loan at the La Liga club during the recent season.

Our verdict: Very likely

Donny van de Beek

Age: 27

Position: Central midfielder

Rumoured asking price: £8m

Transfer value: £4.3m

Career appearances: 287

Career goals: 52

Honours

Eredivisie (1): 2018-19

KNVB Cup (1): 2018-19

Johan Cruyff Shield (1): 2019

Van de Beek spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, but the Bundesliga outfit have decided against bringing him in on a permanent basis this summer.

The 27-year-old is therefore heading back to Man United, but he has no future at Old Trafford and will almost certainly be sold this summer, with his agent recently hinting at a move to Spain, Italy or France.

Our verdict: Very likely

Harry Maguire

Age: 31

Position: Centre-back

Rumoured asking price: £30m

Transfer value: £15.3m

Career appearances: 539

Career goals: 32

Honours

Championship playoffs (1): 2016

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

There remains speculation surrounding Maguire's future at Old Trafford, with the 20-time English champions believed to be willing to listen to offers for him during the summer market.

West Ham United are said to have agreed a £30m deal for the England international last year, but Maguire turned down a switch to the London Stadium.

Maguire regained the trust of his manager during the recent season, but if a suitable offer arrives, he could potentially be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Our verdict: Unlikely

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Age: 26

Position: Right-back

Rumoured asking price: £20m

Transfer value: £17m

Career appearances: 236

Career goals: 2

Honours

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

Wan-Bissaka benefitted from Man United's injury problems to feature on a regular basis during the 2023-24 campaign, but he is being tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Crystal Palace are believed to be considering re-signing the right-back, and there is a chance that he could be used as part of a swap deal with Red Devils target Michael Olise.

Our verdict: Very likely

Bruno Fernandes

Age: 29

Position: Central midfielder

Rumoured asking price: £60m

Transfer value: £59.6m

Career appearances: 523

Career goals: 163

Honours

Taca de Portugal (1): 2018-19

Taca de Liga (2): 2017-18, 2018-19

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

UEFA Nations League (1): 2018-19

Fernandes's future is currently the subject of speculation, with Bayern Munich believed to be determined to secure his signature during this summer's transfer window.

There have been claims that the 29-year-old is unsettled at Old Trafford, but it would be a huge surprise to see him leave the 20-time English champions.

Fernandes could potentially be in line for a new deal at Old Trafford, with Man United viewing him as central to their plans moving forward.

Our verdict: Very unlikely

Marcus Rashford

Age: 26

Position: Attacker

Rumoured asking price: £70m

Transfer value: £51.1m

Career appearances: 402

Career goals: 131

Honours

FA Cup (2): 2015-16, 2023-24

EFL Cup (2): 2016-17, 2022-23

Community Shield (1): 2016

UEFA Europa League (1): 2016-17

Rashford struggled for form during the 2023-24 campaign, and his issues at club level meant that he was overlooked for a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a big-money move for the forward this summer, but it is very difficult to imagine the French outfit coming up with a suitable offer.

Rashford is said to be determined to stay at Old Trafford and show his best form next season, and he has another four years left to run on a lucrative contract with the Red Devils.

Our verdict: Unlikely

Antony

Age: 24

Position: Attacker

Rumoured asking price: £35m

Transfer value: £21.3m

Career appearances: 216

Career goals: 42

Honours

Eredivisie (2): 2020-21, 2021-22

KNVB Cup (1): 2020-21

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

Antony has struggled at Man United since his big-money move from Ajax, and he only managed one Premier League goal during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 24-year-old is being linked with a switch away from Old Trafford, but there are not believed to have been any offers at this stage, and the Red Devils could find it difficult to shift him this summer unless they are prepared to accept a cut-price offer.

Our verdict: Unlikely

Christian Eriksen

Age: 32

Position: Central midfielder

Rumoured asking price: £10m

Transfer value: £6.8m

Career appearances: 610

Career goals: 113

Honours

Eredivisie (3) 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13

KNVB Cup (1): 2009-10

Johan Cruyff Shield (1): 2013

Serie A (1): 2020-21

FA Cup (1): 2023-24

EFL Cup (1): 2022-23

Eriksen impressed for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign but had to accept a limited role during the recent season, and he is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

The 32-year-old is unlikely to be short of interest, and it is probable that the Denmark international will be on the move in a cut-price deal during the summer market.

Our verdict: Likely
