Newcastle United are plotting a sensational loan move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial as they look to ease relegation worries.
The Magpies, who are set for their first transfer window under the club's new ownership, are hoping to make a huge splash.
After defeat to Liverpool last time out, Newcastle find themselves 19th in the table, level on points with bottom-placed Norwich City.
Since Eddie Howe's appointment in November, the Toon have picked up five points from a possible 18, but were handily beaten by Leicester City and Liverpool, with a clash against league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
Newcastle are heavily reliant on the goals of Callum Wilson and see Martial as the perfect player to ease the burden on their number 9.

Martial is reportedly pushing for an exit from Old Trafford, having fallen down the pecking order following the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
His agent Philippe Lamboley said: "Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play.
"He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon."
Juventus are also interested in the former Monaco ace, but the Sun report that Newcastle are planning to 'blow them out of the water' with a £6m fee to land him on loan for the rest of the season.
The report suggests that bosses on Tyneside are fully aware that it will be difficult to convince recognised stars to move to St James' Park, with their top-flight status in serious doubt.
Martial has been injured since Ralf Rangnick was named as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's successor and has given his agent's comments very short shrift.
"If he has a wish to go to another club, it should be the player who informs either the board or myself," the German coach said last week.
"I don't communicate with agents via the media and the press. The player hasn't spoken with me or us about it.
"After the final training session before the Crystal Palace game, after having trained with the team, he informed the doctor and medical staff he would not be available because the pain on his knee is too big, so we have to wait and see with Anthony.
"To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not that much of interest to me."
Rangnick has also told wantaway stars not to expect him to try and persuade them to stay, should they make it clear they wish to depart.
"Players have to want to stay and play for the club," he added. "For a big club like Manchester United, if a player does not want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don't think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.
"This is such a massive club [with] such fantastic support, I don't think that anyone in the club should then try to convince the player to stay."
