Man Utd brief agents with Solskjaer sack message amid mounting pressure

mirror.co.uk, 24 October 2021, 06:43

Manchester United have reportedly moved to brief agents with a message about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid mounting pressure on the Norwegian.

The Red Devils have experienced a downturn in form in the last two months, suffering defeats to Young Boys, Aston Villa and Leicester City.

That has left them sixth in the Premier League table heading into Sunday's visit of title-chasing Liverpool, with United already eight points behind leaders Chelsea after just nine games.

It is not how many pictured United's season going, with the summer signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo leading many to expect a title challenge was possible.

But with just three wins in their last eight games, Solskjaer's ability to take United to that next step is now being roundly questioned.

Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the right man for Manchester United? Comment below.

The pressure is beginning to ramp up on Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

All the problems and highlights of Solskjaer's reign at Old Trafford have been seen over their past two games.

First, a disastrous afternoon in defence saw Leicester claim a 4-2 win at the King Power Stadium to further dent their title hopes.

Then on Wednesday, Atalanta went 2-0 up before half-time before an extraordinary second-half comeback rescued Solskjaer, with Ronaldo scoring the winner nine minutes from time.

Despite that win, the pressure is mounting on the under-fire United boss, whose tactical nous and ability to lead a title-challenging side is still in question.

But according to The Sun, the United hierarchy are continuing to back their manager and have taken steps to show this to circling agents.

It is reported that some agents have offered their services to the Red Devils if they want to find a replacement for the under-pressure boss.

And in a welcome move for Solskjaer, United have refused those advances and have made it clear that they have no intention of sacking him.

While Solskjaer will be delighted that the Red Devils are backing him to turn his side's form around, his players may not be so happy.

The Sun claim that a number of the United squad are 'far less convinced' that Solskjaer can take United back to the top of the Premier League.

The win over Atalanta is said to have done nothing to change the overall mood in the Red Devils' dressing room.

Bruno Fernandes does not appear to be one of the players in doubt about Solskjaer, this week insisting that the United boss had to be supported.

"We have a lot to improve on and the coach also knows there has to be some improvement at their end but that is part of football," he said.

"We fully support him. He's our manager, we follow his ideas and believe in them. Of course, players start to get a bit suspicious when they don't play or when things don't go well.

"Look, I can think one way is better and my team-mate can think the other way is the best one, so how could we decide which one is better?

"That's why we have to follow the manager's ideas. His ideas might be right or wrong, but we're sticking with it until the end."
