Man United legend Carrick on verge of being named as Middlesbrough head coach

Michael Carrick is on the verge of being appointed Middlesbrough manager following a dramatic U-turn, talkSPORT understands.

Manchester United legend Carrick initially indicated he did not want the job but had a change of heart after fresh talks over the weekend.

Boro plan to have Carrick in charge for their game against Huddersfield this weekend.

It's thought that caretaker boss Leo Percovich will remain in charge of Wednesday night's trip to Wigan Athletic.

Candidates such as Rob Edwards, Carlos Corberan, Percovich and current academy coach Lee Cattermole were also linked with the head coach's role.

However, it seems that the 41-year-old Carrick is now set to take the hot seat.

Middlesbrough have been searching for a new boss since taking the decision to sack Chris Wilder as manager earlier this month.

This followed a run of poor form and reported disagreements over transfer strategy.

Despite entering the campaign as favourites to earn promotion, the Teessiders have found themselves floundering at the other end of the table.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Blackburn at the weekend, Middlesbrough currently sit in the relegation zone after winning just three times in 14 matches so far this term.
