Mainz's pleasing mid-table position belies the fact that they have won just one home match so far this season. Dortmund's visit to the Mewa Arena offers Bo Svensson's side a chance to rekindle their home form by taking a big-name scalp. Marcus Ingvartsen will be looking to contribute to that after netting his fifth goal of the season as the 05ers took a 1-1 draw at Stuttgart on Saturday. He is set to lead the attack again alongside Karim Onisiwo, with Jonathan Burkardt facing a prolonged injury absence. Mainz will be without central midfielder Dominik Kohr, who is suspended after seeing his fifth yellow card of the season in Stuttgart. Anton Stach may return to the starting line-up as a consequence. Norwegian central defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen will be hoping to get his first playing time for his new club, having been an unused substitute at the weekend, but No.1 goalkeeper Robin Zentner remains a doubt.
Dortmund have won just one of their last five away Bundesliga ties, so will equally be looking for a statement win. However, they will have to do so without Jude Bellingham for the first time this season as he sits this one out after picking up his fifth yellow card at the weekend. The England midfielder got a goal and an assist in Sunday's thrilling 4-3 win against Augsburg. Either way, Borussia's attacking options look extremely exciting. Sebastien Haller made his long-awaited arrival into competitive action following his battle with testicular cancer, but match fitness means top-scorer Moukoko should continue leading the line after signing his new deal to 2026 at the weekend. Two attacking substitutes also made strong cases for inclusion with great goals. Gio Reyna's sublime match-winning half-volley showed the American is raring to go, while young English talent Jamie Bynoe-Gittens netted his second Bundesliga goal with a stunning sweeping finish. Julian Ryerson, a new signing from Union Berlin, should make his second appearance at full-back.
