America wants Premier League games played in the country.
That's according to New Jersey governor Phil Murphy, who saw 82,000 fans watch the pre-season game between Man United and Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium.
Talk of a 39th game being staged abroad is nothing new, but it has always been resisted and governor Murphy, who is an America 2026 World Cup executive, has eyes on a European fixture being played in the States, too.
"We would die to have a real competitive game anywhere in America. To have a Champions League game in New York/New Jersey, it would be overwhelming," he said.
"I know the clubs have not been wild about that in Europe. The guy who brought [the pre-season] game here [Charlie Stillitano], who is a good friend - over the years he has tried to do just that. It's more what will the clubs from Europe want.
"But I would assume that United and Arsenal view this as a good brand: putting your best players out there, 82,000 fans in New York/New Jersey.
"You would have Barcelona playing Real Madrid in New Jersey at some point in a regular season or in a Champions League game. I'd love to think it would happen.
"I tell you what's a good model, the NFL. As you all know, they play real games in Europe with great success. I'm a New England Patriots fan and they are playing the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt in November. The stadium is not that big, only 55,000 seats, and they had demand for 700,000 tickets."
In 2008, Richard Scudamore's plan for a 39th game of the season was met with very fierce resistance and was abandoned. Two years ago, fans forced a rethink from Premier League bosses when they attempted to pull away and form a European Super League.
"It's going to be clubs and their fans [who decide], or maybe if there is a different configuration or a super league ever happens," Murphy added. "I can say unequivocally, US fans would die to have a real competitive game anywhere in America. If it was in New York/New Jersey, you wouldn't get near that game."

Jordan Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia appears to be in the final stages.
The Liverpool captain will join Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Anfield legend Steven Gerrard and Henderson was seen at the stadium on Tuesday where he appeared to be filming a farewell video that he is likely to post to fans on social media.
Since joining Liverpool in 2011, he has won the lot on the domestic front, picking up the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League a year before.
Henderson is said to have agreed a contract with the Saudi Pro League club that will see him earn £700,000-a-week.

Billionaire Tottenham owner Joe Lewis has been indicted by authorities in New York for 'orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme'.
Damian Williams, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York, said the 86-year-old's behaviour is 'classic corporate corruption'.
In a video released by his office he said: "Today I'm announcing that my office, the Southern District of New York, has indicted Joe Lewis, the British billionaire, for orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme.
"We allege that for years Joe Lewis abused his access to corporate boardrooms and repeatedly provided inside information to his romantic partners, his personal assistants, his private pilots and his friends.
"Those folks then traded on that inside information and made millions of dollars in the stock market, because thanks to Lewis those bets were a sure thing."
He added: "Now, none of this was necessary. Joe Lewis is a wealthy man. But as we allege, he used inside information as a way to compensate his employees or to shower gifts on his friends and lovers.
"That's classic corporate corruption. It's cheating, and it's against the law. Laws that apply to everyone, no matter who you are.
"That's why Joe Lewis has been indicted and will face justice here in the Southern District of New York."
Lewis is based in the Bahamas and is the founder and primary investor of investment firm Tavistock Group. He bought a controlling stake in the Premier League club from Lord Sugar in 2001 for £22million and owns more than 85 per cent through his company ENIC.

Good morning.
It's Harry Kane to start with and a very public declaration from Bayern Munich's president.
The Bundesliga side want the top scoring striker and are preparing another bid for him.
Herbert Hainer believes signing Kane, who scored 30 Premier League goals last season, would boost the German league.
"Here in the Bundesliga we don't have many international stars any more," he told Kicker, a German football magazine.
"Bayern always try to bring in stars. Harry Kane is a highly attractive player, the England captain and a top scorer. He would do us and the Bundesliga good."
Kane, who turns 30 in July, is out of contract next summer and Bayern appear determined to land him as well as Man City defender Kyle Walker.
It is said Hainer and Michael Diederich, the chief financial officer, are in Japan where Walker is on a pre-season tour with City, while Jan-Christian Dreesen, the chief executive, and Marco Neppe, the technical director, have stayed in Germany to focus on prising Kane away from Spurs.

Julen Lopetegui believes that Wolves may be forced to sell even more players before the end of the summer.
Having already sold Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Conor Coady and with Raul Jiminez seemingly Fulham-bound, the midlands side could still be forced to sell even more of their star men.
Lopetegui said: "Unfortunately, the situation was reality, it was bad news for me of course. I'm trying in the summer; this is the plan A that we have and after that we have to adapt to the situation to the plan B, trying to think about the players that are cost effective signings in this situation.
"It is true that in this moment, we can't develop the plan B either. We lost a lot of players, and it is true that we think the club want to sell more players. This situation, we need players to balance the squad and be competitive in the Premier League for sure.
"Unfortunately we have this situation, I am not a financial adviser of course but I am a coach and I know we need to be competitive in the Premier League. I hope that we are going to improve because this situation because we need that. The players that are here, they're committed but of course all of the rest is true.
"First of all you have accept it and after to trust it and after be able to be again excited with the new plan. We did that, and now we don't have this plan either because of the moment we don't have the new players, we have more players out and only got in one free player.
"For example, yesterday we lost Raul, he is gone and it was a pity for me that he has gone but it was not under my control whether he wants out or not, its not my control. I want to highlight this, he is not under my contract. I can understand that you have to sell of course and as my responsibility I can highlight the demand we are going to have in the Premier League, sure. We have to be ready for that now. We are in the first week of the preseason and the first match against Manchester United will be around the corner."

Stuart Pearce has urged Tottenham to command top dollar for Harry Kane if they're going to sell him this summer.
Asked if Tottenham's season hinges on Kane's future, Pearce said: "It'll go a long way.
"At the start of any season you look at your squad, go through it and see how many goals you've got in your squad and each goal equates to a point, near enough.
"If you look at the league table at the end of the season and a team have scored 70 goals then the chances are that they're in and around 70 points.
"By losing Harry Kane you're taking a lot of goals out of your team."
Asked if he'll leave, Pearce said: "I literally have no idea. If I was someone like Man United I'd come and buy him.
"Whenever you buy a player there's no resale value because of freedom of contract, so it doesn't really matter.
"All clubs are buying for the here and now - the season coming up and whatever happens after that, so be it.
"We mentioned £80million, I think that's a good price for someone who can guarantee 20-plus goals per season.
"With Declan Rice going for £105million I think they'll be looking for more than £105million."

West Brom have completed the signing of Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton.
The 21-year-old forward made 12 appearances in the Premier League for the Seagulls last term but has been allowed to leave in order to enhance his first team prospects moving forward.
Brighton's technical director, David Weir said: "Jeremy is at a stage now where he needs to play regularly and this is a really good move for him.
"We'll be keeping a close eye on his development throughout the campaign and wish him well for the season."
