The Clarets will be looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League after they were relegated on the final day last season.
But there has been a mass exodus at Turf Moor. Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Nathan Collins and Wout Weghorst have all left permanently or temporarily.
While Nathan Lennon, Phil Bardsley and Erik Pieters were released.
You would also think Maxwel Cornet and Dwight McNeil won't be Burnley players by the end of the transfer window, with lots of Premier League clubs keen.
Now, the Clarets have been busy in the market and Kompany has used his connections at Manchester City to get a couple of players.
But he still faces a tough challenge.
Meanwhile, the Terriers have also had a tumultuous summer in which manager Carlos Corberan, Lewis O'Brien and Harry Toffolo have all departed.
Several other important squad members have also left, including Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill, so what to expect from Huddersfield is unclear.
But after coming so close to promotion last time, you would think they will be trying to go one better.

Huddersfield v Burnley: Team news
The hosts have signed six first-team players, so we could see all of them make their competitive debuts.
Jack Rudoni is the big signing from AFC Wimbledon and will be expected to slot straight into midfield, while Will Boyle and Yuta Nakayama could come into the defence.
The Terriers have played with a back four for the majority of pre-season, as opposed to a three with wing-backs like last year.
Meanwhile, the Clarets have eight new players that could all play.
Certainly, expect Josh Cullen, Arijanet Muric, CJ Egan-Riley and Scott Twine to start.
With Cornet and McNeil's future uncertain, it is unclear if Kompany will decide to play either.
Huddersfield v Burnley: What has been said?
New Burnley boss Vincent Kompany: "Pre-season is all about getting fit and no injuries.
"We have got to work on some of the concepts and prepare as we want to. It takes time [to get to know each other].
"We have a lot of new faces and we will have to blend them in over the course of the season and there is no other way.
"I think that [Huddersfield] is the unknown."

Huddersfield Town are winless in their last seven league meetings with Burnley (D3 L4) since a 2-1 win in November 2013 in the Championship. This is their first league meeting since January 2019 in the Premier League, a 2-1 Burnley win.
Burnley last faced Huddersfield Town in the Championship in the 2015-16 season, completing a league double over the Terriers on their way to winning promotion to the Premier League.
On the last three occasions Huddersfield's opening league game of the season has fallen at home, they have lost: 0-3 vs Chelsea in 2018-19, 1-2 vs Derby in 2019-20 and 0-1 vs Norwich in 2020-21.
This will be Vincent Kompany's first league game in charge of Burnley - he is the first manager other than Sean Dyche to manage the Clarets in their opening league match of the season since Eddie Howe in 2012-13, who led them to a 2-0 win over Bolton.
Huddersfield Town lost last season's Championship play-off final to Nottingham Forest; the losers of the play-off final have started their next league campaign with a defeat in each of the last two seasons, with Brentford losing to Birmingham in 2020-21 and Swansea losing to Blackburn last season.
