W ith just details left for the deal to be sealed, Hugo Sanchez is expected to be officially appointed as Cruz Azul 's new coach in the coming hours.
The former Real Madrid forward will become a coach again for the first time since stepping down from the Pachuca job in 2012, with the Mexican side being his last team in Liga MX and in his coaching career overall.
Sanchez, who has spent the last few months in Madrid, is expected to travel to Mexico City shortly to put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Cruz Azul.
"Details are left, but, if confirmed, it will be a nice challenge," Sanchez has told MARCA.
At Cruz Azul, Sanchez will attempt to break a curse that has seen the team miss out on the Liga MX title in the last 23 years.
His coaching staff will consist of the Argentine Sergio Egea, with whom he worked at the Mexican national team, and Edu Pons, until recently a fitness coach at Barcelona and one of the coaches that accompanied him during his time at Almeria.
