Richter has made a remarkable return since having a testicular tumour removed, scoring twice in four appearances from the bench so far. His side were cruelly pegged back in a 1-1 draw at Mainz on Matchday 7, though, meaning they are still stuck on one win for the season. The point at Mainz did extend Hertha's unbeaten run to three matches, however, so Sandro Schwarz is unlikely to tinker too much with his team. He will be forced into at least one change, with Jean-Paul Boetius sadly becoming the second Hertha player this season to have had surgery on a testicular tumour. Recovered from a minor illness, Suat Serdar is set to replace him for a team that started the weekend in 13th position. The experienced trio of Kevin-Prince Boateng, Vladimir Darida and Stevan Jovetic will be called upon from the bench if required.

Hoffenheim were held to a scoreless draw by Freiburg in their last game, but Andre Breitenreiter's side still went into the international break in fourth position after winning four of their opening seven matches. Kabak has been part of a three-man defence that has let in only two goals in the last five games, and in Berlin the former Liverpool and Schalke defender is likely to play alongside Kevin Vogt and Kevin Akpoguma again. Robert Skov is fit again and should return on the right wing with Angelino on the left, which would leave Pavel Kaderabek to watch from the bench as a result.

Match stats

Richter - who scored in a win at Augsburg and a draw with Bayer Leverkusen - is one of three Hertha players on two league goals this season. Serdar and Dodi Lukebakio are the others.

The Old Lady have drawn two and lost one of their three home matches so far this term.

Niklas Stark, Ishak Belfodil and Lucas Tousart were on target when Hertha got a crucial 3-0 home win over Hoffenheim in March 2022.

Kabak - who spent last season on loan at Norwich City - has started all seven league matches for Hoffenheim so far.

The visitors have taken 10 points from four home matches this season, but have won one and lost two on the road.
