Friday's Nations League predictions including Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Germany

sportsmole.co.uk, 11 October 2024, 05:00
Estonia vs. Azerbaijan (Friday, 5.00pm)

Already embroiled in a potential relegation fight, two teams without a point clash on Friday, as Estonia host Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League.

Both sides lost twice last month to sink to the foot of League C Group 1, leaving them six points adrift ahead of this week's meeting in Tallinn.

We say: Estonia 0-1 Azerbaijan

Even though Azerbaijan do not pick up many points on the road, they should have the firepower to outgun an ailing Estonia side that lacks depth in the final third.

The visitors are set to get their Group 1 campaign up and running, leaving their hosts to contemplate the prospect of relegation.

Bosnia H'vina vs. Germany (Friday, 7.45pm)

Sitting pretty at the summit of their UEFA Nations League section, Germany bid to take another step closer to the quarter-finals when they meet Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica on Friday.

Julian Nagelsmann's crop have taken four points from their first six on offer in League A Group 3, while their hosts sit third and are still searching for their maiden victory in this year's tournament.

We say: Bosnia-Herzegovina 0-2 Germany

Germany boss Nagelsmann may be without a plethora of celebrated names due to injury or international retirement, but an out-of-sorts Bosnia side should not pose much threat to the visitors either way.

A comfortable victory for Die Mannschaft is the only outcome we can envisage before Germany pit their wits against Netherlands in next Monday's blockbuster battle.

Hungary vs. Netherlands (Friday, 7.45pm)

After two high-scoring contests in September, the Netherlands have a lot to live up to entertainment-wise when they head to Budapest for Friday's UEFA Nations League clash with Hungary.

Oranje occupy second place in League A Group 3 after the first round, while their winless visitors sit dead last after taking just one point from their opening two contests.

We say: Hungary 0-2 Netherlands

As Hungary have not posed much of a threat up front for a few months, Netherlands should not be put under the cosh too much in Budapest, especially with Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch surely knowing better than anybody else how to nullify Szoboszlai.

Koeman's squad is not as strong as it could be at the minute, but we can still picture Oranje running out comfortable winners before next week's mammoth encounter with Germany.

Czech Republic vs. Albania (Friday, 7.45pm)

Locked together on three points from two matches, Czech Republic and Albania meet in Prague on Friday night, as they resume their UEFA Nations League campaigns.

Both teams trail League B Group 1 leaders Georgia heading into this month's fixtures, following one win and one loss in September.

We say: Czech Republic 2-1 Albania

Approaching the midpoint of this Nations League campaign, there is plenty at stake: winning Group 1 offers a potential route into the next World Cup.

As Albania do not tend to travel well, Czech Republic should continue their scoring streak on home turf, and victory will put them back in the hunt for top spot.

Ukraine vs. Georgia (Friday, 7.45pm)

Top meets bottom in League B Group 1, as growing force Georgia meet last-placed Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League on Friday.

Buoyed by a superb showing at Euro 2024, the Georgians claimed maximum points last month, while their opponents suffered back-to-back defeats.

We say: Ukraine 2-2 Georgia

As Ukraine have been struck by a series of injuries to key men - and they are still denied home advantage - they may have to settle for one point against a well-drilled Georgia side.

The Group 1 leaders have a clear identity and some talented forwards, so they can keep their Nations League unbeaten streak going.

Iceland vs. Wales (Friday, 7.45pm)

Wales will be looking to preserve their unbeaten start to their UEFA Nations League campaign when they travel to Reykjavik to face Iceland on Friday night.

While the Dragons sit second in League B Group 4 with four points from two matches, their Icelandic counterparts are just one point and one place further back in third spot.

We say: Iceland 1-1 Wales

Wales will believe that they are good enough to come out on top on Friday and few would be surprised to see them claim maximum points here. However, Iceland have impressed on home soil - winning three and drawing one of their last four games - and we feel that they could frustrate the Dragons in a tight contest in Reykjavik.

Turkey vs. Montenegro (Friday, 7.45pm)

Turkey and Montenegro resume their UEFA Nations League campaigns when they square off at the Samsun 19 Mayis Stadium in Tekkekoy on Friday night.

While the hosts sit top of League B Group 4 with four points from two matches, the visitors find themselves rock bottom without a single point.

We say: Turkey 2-0 Montenegro

Considering the results of both teams in 2024 and their starts in the Nations League, Turkey will be regarded as favourites to come out on top in this fixture.

Montenegro have kept only three clean sheets in their last 13 internationals and they may struggle to keep the hosts' fearsome frontline quiet on this occasion.

Slovakia vs. Sweden (Friday, 7.45pm)

Tied atop League C Group 1, Slovakia and Sweden will continue their battle for automatic promotion in the UEFA Nations League on Friday night, when they lock horns in Bratislava.

Both teams won their first two matches last month, so a straight fight to finish first could take place between now and November.

We say: Slovakia 1-2 Sweden

Clearly the best two teams in their League C group, these sides could play out a close-fought contest - albeit both will be badly hampered by injuries.

Sweden are still searching for identity under new management, but they possess enough attacking talent to beat Slovakia and go clear of the pack with maximum points.
