Former Russia international footballer Igor Denisov believes that his stance against the Vladimir Putin-ordered invasion of Ukraine could have fatal consequences for him.
Denisov, who captained the Russian football team between 2012 to 2016, is against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"These events are a disaster. A complete horror," said Igor Denisov in an interview with YouTube channel Nobel.
"I don't know, maybe I'll be arrested or killed after these words, but I'm talking about things as they are," added the former Zenit St. Petersburg, Dynamo Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow player, who was capped 56 times by Russia.
Denisov also revealed that he personally wrote to Putin to stop the war.
The Russian parliament has passed a law that punishes anyone who publishes "fake news" or engages in any public activity that discredits Russia's military action with prison sentences of up to 15 years.
