Seamus Coleman was confronted by a fan following Everton's 4-1 defeat by Liverpool.
It's not clear whether the man was a disgruntled Everton supporter or a gloating Liverpool fan.
The incident occurred shortly after the final whistle on Wednesday night.
The man wasn't the only supporter to encroach on the pitch as stewards scrambled to restore order at Goodison Park.
Liverpool piled more pressure on former Reds manager Rafael Benitez with a record-breaking 4-1 win in the 239th Merseyside derby.
Jordan Henderson opened the scoring for Liverpool before Mohamed Salah doubled their advantage.
A few Everton fans were seen leaving the stadium as performance suggested a whitewash could be on the cards.
But the Toffees battled back through Demarai Gray and the two sides went into the break separated by a single goal.
After the break, Liverpool moved into top gear and Salah made it three before Diogo Jota put the cherry on the icing with a fourth.
Salah spoke to Amazon Prime after the victory, saying: "The message from the manager was that they will play physically strong and go 100 per cent for every ball we just had to play our game and try to create chances, which we did.
"I expected him [Seamus Coleman] to make a mistake, which he did. The game was tough at 2-1 but at 3-1 it becomes much better."
On his goal target, he added: "Hopefully many more. My first target is to win something at the club, league, Champions League hopefully both."
Meanwhile, Thierry Henry inside the Amazon studio, said of Liverpool: "They are on a different planet, not only them but the two others at the top - the rhythm they are giving to the league is amazing.
"But, what's annoying for Everton is that you could have considered the goals at the beginning."
He added: "Liverpool are on another planet. The intensity on and off the ball, still applying pressure at the end of the game, still trying to play with the same intensity - amazing."
