Dani Alves has taken an important decision in his bid to focus on his defense after being accused by a woman of sexual assault in a Barcelona nightclub.
The Brazilian right-back will request that the number of visits and people with whom he can communicate be restricted in order to reduce the media pressure surrounding him.
El Mundo indicates that the 39-year-old star wants to focus on preparing a defense strategy to get out of prison as soon as possible.
For that reason, he has requested that only his lawyers and closest family members visit him.
The former Pumas player is still held in the Brians 2 jail along with many sex offenders. However, according to El Mundo, there are also inmates who are accused of other crimes.
Still sad in prison
Alves is devastated after being arrested, but he has gradually begun to integrate into the jail and has already begun to do some of the tasks assigned to the prisoners, such as cleaning.
In addition, he has already gone out to the courtyard, although he still spends most of the time inside his cell with another inmate of Brazilian origin, a decision taken by the Secretary of Penal Measures, Reinsertion and Attention to the Victim of the Catalan government in order to facilitate his adaptation to the prison.
Lawyers prepare the defense strategy
El Mundo indicates that Dani Alves understands that he was jailed due to his different statements.
Hence, his strategy will be focused on his allegation that everything that happened was consensual.
His lawyers will state that he always collaborated with justice, as he even travelled to Barcelona to talk to police despite being aware that he was accused of rape.
They will also argue that there is no risk of Alves fleeing the country, as he is a famous player and therefore easily detectable.
The court granted more days to the lawyers of the former Barcelona right-back to present his statement considering that until this Wednesday they could not distribute all the evidence to the involved parties. Their deadline expires at the beginning of next week.
