The arrival of Dani Alves at Pumas UNAM in Liga MX makes him one of the biggest names ever to star in Mexican football.
Alves has won more collective trophies than any other player in the history of the game, and is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs of all time.
It begs the question as to whether he is the greatest player to have ever played in the Mexican league, although plenty of others could make a case.
Andre Pierre Gignac
The Frenchman joined Tigres UANL in 2015, and is already the top scorer in the history of the club, surpassing Tomas Boy.
Gignac played for France at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and has 147 goals for Tigres, four Liga Mx titles.
Emilio Butragueno
After becoming a Real Madrid legend, he joined Atletico Celaya and came close to winning the title. As far as status goes, Butragueno is up there with the very best to have played in Mexico.
Ronaldinho
After winning it all with Barcelona and becoming the best player in the world, Ronaldinho arrived in the Liga MX to play for Queretaro, and he showed several signs of his quality as a player, as well as being an inspiration for the team to reach the final of the Apertura in 2014, which they lost 5-3 to Santos de Torreon.
Ivan Zamorano
The Chilean joined Club America and helped them to their first title win in ten years.
Eusebio
One of the greatest goalscorers of all time, Eusebio had a brief spell with Monterrey back in 1976.
He played just 10 games and scored one goal for the club before moving to Canada's Toronto Blizzard.
Pep Guardiola
One of Barcelona's greatest players, and an international with Spain at the 1994 World Cup, Guardiola played in the Liga Mx with Dorados de Sinaloa in the 2006 Clausura, towards the end of his playing career.
Guardiola played only 10 games for the team, scoring one goal during his brief stay in Mexican football.
