Two of the greatest goalscorers that football has ever had came together in a touching moment on Friday as Cristiano Ronaldo signalled his encouragement for Pele as the Brazilian legend recovers from illness with chemotherapy treatment.
A host of well-known figures from across the game joined in celebration as Pele posted that he was completing the last session of his treatment for this calendar year.
"Friends, since September 30, when I left hospital, you know that I've been having some chemotherapy as part of my treatment," Pele said in a post on Instagram.
"Today I'm at Albert Einstein Hospital for my last session of 2021. I wanted to share the achievement with you. After all, each little win is a reason to celebrate, don't you think?
"I'm going to take advantage to undergo some more tests, so I'll stay here for a few days.Don't worry, I'm getting ready for the holiday season!"
The post racked up over half a million likes within hours of being posted by the legendary Brazilian.
"Strength my friend," Cristiano Ronaldo replied to the post in his native Portuguese.
Pele's health has been a concern ever since a prostate operation in 2015, and he was re-admitted to hospital for a urinary infection in 2019.
As he recovers and comes back fighting, he can count on the support of Manchester United's leading man.
