Beckham and Wrexham docs voted as best, but fans don't seem interested in Messi

Action, suspense and drama on pitches, courts and tracks entertain millions around the world as they cheer on their favourite names.

And people just cannot get enough of it all as a new poll from Betfair has revealed the rising impact of sport documentaries.

It found that around one in five people [19 per cent] admit to watching such programmes on a Saturday night, which is prime time for entertainment shows.

More than half [60 per cent] of people who aren't sport fans have also admitted to watching a sport documentary.

Furthermore, over a third [38 per cent] of those polled watch them for the exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and the talents' struggles.

A list of the top 20 documentaries has also been revealed, with the new Netflix series titled 'Beckham' taking top spot.

It features extensive footage of the England and Manchester United legend David's stunning career as well as his relationship with coaches and teammates - Glenn Hoddle is perhaps the one person who didn't want to see it.

'Welcome to Wrexham' is third, as the rise of the Welsh club under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney grips fans from around the country as well as those in America and Canada.

However, there doesn't seem to be an appetitie for football legend Lionel Messi's story, though there was an hour long programme shown in the UK called 'Messi' before the 2022 World Cup.

Formula 1 is another sport that captured people's imagination with a number of films and series being loved, including Senna and Drive to Survive.

It all comes as Betfair prepare to premiere a new production called 'Serial Winners: Rachael Blackmore' at Haydock Park Racecourse on 25 November.

One of horsing's biggest game-changers will be under the spotlight in the mini-documentary, with Blackmore the first ever female jockey to win the Grand National.

In 2021, she rode 11/1 shot Minella Times to victory weeks after dominating at Cheltenham.

Hers is a tale that has inspired many females to look at becoming a jockey to the point where gender is becoming irrelevant in a sport that appeared to once have limited opportunities.
