Augsburg went into the international break perched precariously in 16th-place's relegation play-off spot on the back of Matchday 11's 1-0 defeat at Wolfsburg that leaves just a point's buffer to Arminia Bielefeld in the automatic drop zone. They did at least put on a stirring performance in the second period of the Wolves loss, which came on the back of Matchday 10's highly impressive 4-1 win over VfB Stuttgart at the WWK Arena. Markus Weinzierl will hope that his side's improvement continues when the reigning champions come to town but he suffered a major setback against Wolfsburg in the shape of Tobias Strobl's injury that will keep the 31-year-old out of action for some time. Florian Niederlechner - who lasted just 30 minutes as a second-half sub - has only trained individually this week and could join him on the sidelines. Oxford should continue alongside captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in the centre of defence.
As for Bayern, they moved four points clear at the top as goals from Leon Goretzka and Lewandowski ended Freiburg's unbeaten run on Matchday 11. That has Julian Nagelsmann's side looking pretty in pole position as we head into the back end of the Hinrunde, but defeat at Augsburg could see their lead cut to just a point. Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala have all trained with the team, but Niklas Süle and Josip Stanisic's absences will test Bayern's squad depth at the back. Kingsley Coman has scored two goals in his last three matches and kept Gnabry on the bench in recent weeks, with Leroy Sane proving undroppable over on the left. Two of them will join Thomas Müller behind Lewandowski in attack. The Pole has scored six times in his last four league matches and was involved in three of Poland's goals in the 4-1 win over Andorra during the domestic break - scoring twice and setting up another.
Match stats
Niederlechner's averaging a goal every 134 minutes this season. All three of his strikes have come on home soil.
Augsburg have conceded a league-high eight goals in the opening 15 minutes of matches, doing so in their last three in a row.
Weinzierl's side have made their worst start after 11 matches in six years.
Lewandowski has scored more goals this Bundesliga season (13) than the entire Augsburg team combined (nine). He's hit 17 in 21 appearances against Die Fuggerstädter.
Bayern need to score just once more to break their own 100-goal record for most Bundesliga strikes in a calendar year.
Nagelsmann's table-toppers have netted at least three goals in their last four away games. Five would equal another Bundesliga best-mark set by the record champions, in winter 2019/20.
