Anthony Martial drops clear hint over "complicated" Man Utd future

Anthony Martial concedes he is set for a Manchester United return in the summer having admitted a transfer to Sevilla would be "complicated".

The Frenchman moved to the Spanish side in January, but his loan deal will expire when the season ends. He was struggling for minutes at Old Trafford and opted for a move to LaLiga, but he has scored just once for Julen Lopetegui's side.

His lack of playing time in Manchester has led to suggestions he could seek a permanent exit, but much may depend on the new man in the dugout. United are not short of attacking options ahead of an expected summer overhaul.

Martial's lack of impact in Andalusia seems to have ended any potential for an extended stay at Sevilla, although the player is not thinking about his next move. He told ABC Sevilla: "I see it very complicated to be able to continue at Sevilla. I'm not worried about that right now. I came knowing that it would be six months and then I would surely have to return to Manchester United.

"I'm very happy with the experience of playing in a new club, as big as Sevilla and having minutes again. If we manage to be a top four team, we will have achieved the goal and I will be happy for the fans, who have been very good to me since I arrived."

Sevilla look set to qualify for the Champions League having been in the top four for much of the season. Back at Old Trafford the new man, set to be Erik ten Hag, will have to decide who is part of his long-term plans.

In the final third Cristiano Ronaldo has been a regular figure, but reports claim the current Ajax boss is ready to sanction his departure. Edinson Cavani too is due to leave Old Trafford whilst questions continue to be asked of Marcus Rashford, who is seriously out of form.

United's investment in Martial back in 2015 made him the game's most expensive teenager at that time. A sensational debut against Liverpool saw him find the net, but since then he has been incredibly inconsistent in Manchester, which has been a cause of frustration.

Martial still has two years remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and it seems unlikely he will be allowed to leave on the cheap. He is one of several players who has issues with their game time, with Dean Henderson also among those weighing up their options in the coming months.
