Wolfsburg sign Danish striker Jonas Wind from Copenhagen

Wind, who has scored 11 goals in 27 games for Copenhagen this season, has signed a contract until 2026 with the Wolves and could make his debut in their basement battle with Greuther Fürth on Sunday evening.

"Jonas has very good technique, finds solutions in the tightest space, has a good heading game and really works for the team," said Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer. "Even though he brings a good deal of experience, we're convinced his development still isn't over and he can take the next step with us."

Wind will wear the number 23 and replaces Wout Weghorst, who has left for Burnley. The 22-year-old said of his arrival: "I'm happy to be here. I opted for Wolfsburg because they really wanted me. Wolfsburg is a really big club, and I'm glad and proud now to be part of the club. I'm looking forward to what's to come."

A graduate of Copenhagen's own youth academy, Wind was 19 when he made his debut in the Danish Superliga. He scored 13 goals in 17 outings in the U19 Boys League in 2016/17 before adding a further six goals in 13 appearances in the following season, when he broke into the first team.

In his first full season in the Superliga, he found the back of the net five times in 12 games, helping Copenhagen to the league title. He more than doubled that return to 11 goals in 18 games last season, earning his first caps for a Denmark side coached by former Mainz boss Kasper Hjulmand.

A part of Denmark's squad at UEFA Euro 2020, he came on as a substitute in the semi-final defeat to England, having started their opening fixture against Finland.
