Wilshere not highest paid player at new club as ex-Arsenal star's wages emerge

Jack Wilshere will earn a cool £5,000 per week at his new club in Denmark - but will not be their highest paid player.

The 30-year-old has ended his lengthy spell as a free agent by signing for Aarhus Gymnastikforening, having been without a club since the end of last season when he left Bournemouth.

Wilshere links up with the Danish Superliga side and although he places highly in their salary rankings, The Sun claim that at least two teammates take home more than him.

While captain Patrick Mortensen is said to be on £5,700-a-week, defender Frederik Tingager reportedly earns around £6,700.

The Aarhus club - commonly referred to as AGF - sit seventh in Demark's top flight which contains 12 teams.

Wilshere, who will wear the No.10 shirt, is hoping to bring his pedigree to Ceres Park for manager David Nielsen and co's final four league games of the regular season.

"I am very much looking forward to contributing to the team," the former England international said upon putting pen to paper.

"I'm physically in really good shape and I feel fit, so now for me it's about getting into the squad and see if I can earn some playing time for the club and contribute to get some wins."

After his release from Bournemouth last June, Wilshere began the new season by training with Italian second division club Como but was unable to sign as he did not hold an EU passport at the time.

Wilshere then returned to Arsenal to train with their first team and kick off his coaching qualifications, having made over 151 appearances in 10 years for the Gunners until 2018.

"Since I started training with Arsenal, I have never hidden that it was to be ready for 2022 and for a new club," the midfielder added.

"It has now succeeded and it will be an exciting new challenge for me. I am at a point in my career where I need to get started again after a difficult period, and that opportunity AGF has offered me.

"I am very grateful for that and I will do everything I can to help the team move forward."

Ex- Liverpool defender Stig Inge Bjornebye is AGF's sporting director and had "no doubt" when the opportunity to sign him arose.

"Jack needs no further presentation and he has shown his worth on both club and national level over the past 10 years," Bjornebye stated.

"So when the opportunity arose to get him here to Aarhus, we had no doubt that we would like to pursue it. Jack can contribute with his excellent technique and his eye for the game and he will give us some extra offensive tools.

"He is in good physical shape, but obviously lacks some game fitness. But that will soon come, and we look forward to seeing him in the white jersey, when he has settled in."
