Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon details harrowing moment he realised fan collapsed

Tottenham got back winning ways on Sunday as they beat an energised Newcastle United 3-2, but it was an incident shortly before half time that'll be on the minds of players and spectators.

The game was brought to an abrupt halt as Sergio Reguilon brought attention to a fan that collapsed in the stands, and the game was suspended as the supporter received urgent treatment.

There were many minutes of eery silence as everyone in the ground collectively wished hope that the supporter would be okay, and thankfully due to the swift response of the medical staff, the fan is now conscious once more.

Reguilon was applauded by Newcastle fans for his response to the situation, and after the game the Spaniard opened up about the harrowing incident that took place.

The Tottenham defender was over by the touchline and near the stand where the fan was taken ill, and has detailed the moment he realised that the supporter was in urgent need of attention.

Reguilon said: "I heard the fans say 'stop, stop' look too close, I said look at the guy he's lying down he's no good please stop the game then after this it's okay that's more important.

"I saw one guy lying down and one man like this [making CPR gestures] I was nervous I went to the referee and said we cannot play, stop the match, the referee and the linesman. Now I think it's okay? That's more important."

Regardless on the on-field actions that took place during the match on Sunday, both Reguilon and Eric Dier were awarded a joint man-of-the-match award for their quick actions to assist the Newcastle fan, and Harry Kane issued a classy message following the incident after the game.

Kane said: "First and foremost best wishes to the guy in the stands, obviously not a good sight to see but we hear that he might be stable now, so we're thankful to the emergency teams, the fans who were doing CPR, hopefully he's okay and we wish him all the best from Tottenham.

"I think from our point of view we know there's defibs on the side of the bench obviously we don't know if they have that in the stands.

"I think Eric went over just to ask if they've got one, it was devastating to see we wish him all the best and the fans to see that, from our point of view hope everyone's okay."

It wasn't the dream start to life that the new Newcastle owners were hoping for, as their side still remain without a Premier League win, but the incident was a telling reminder that sometimes there are things more important in life.
