Sunday's Serie A predictions including Juventus vs. Atalanta BC

sportsmole.co.uk, 22 January 2023, 06:10
Sampdoria vs. Udinese (Sunday, 11.30am)

Both with just three points from their last six Serie A matches, Sampdoria and Udinese aim for an upturn in fortunes on Sunday, when they meet at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

While Samp followed last week's Coppa Italia exit with another league loss on Monday, their visitors were beaten by Bologna as their mid-season slump continued.

We say: Sampdoria 0-1 Udinese

Sampdoria have scored only once this month, and Udinese have barely fared better, so a hatful of goals is not on the agenda when they meet this weekend. Instead, a tight affair should be expected, in which the away side come out on top by the narrowest of margins.

Monza vs. Sassuolo (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Just days after their valiant exit from the cup, Monza return to Serie A duty on Sunday, aiming to finish a promising first half of the season with victory over struggling Sassuolo.

While the Biancorossi were denied a place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals by Juventus, they were 12 points clear of danger after 18 rounds; their visitors' faltering form has dropped them down to 17th.

We say: Monza 1-1 Sassuolo

For all their recent improvement, Monza have won four and lost four at home this term, so perhaps an opportunity exists for Sassuolo to end their long dry spell in Serie A. They may, though, have to settle for a point due to ongoing issues at both ends of the pitch, and their search for a win will continue.

Spezia vs. Roma (Sunday, 5.00pm)

Aiming to continue a successful start to 2023, Roma travel to Liguria on Sunday, when they meet Serie A strugglers Spezia at Stadio Alberto Picco.

After progressing to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and seeing off Fiorentina in the league, Jose Mourinho's men meet a side they have yet to lose against in the top flight.

We say: Spezia 1-2 Roma

Having lost just once on home soil this season, Spezia are draw specialists at the Picco. They surely cannot repeat the trick on Sunday, though, against opponents with momentum on their side - Dybala and Abraham are striking up an understanding which will be too hot for the hosts to handle.

Juventus vs. Atalanta (Sunday, 7.45pm)

Amid another turbulent time for the club, Juventus aim to rise above off-field disarray when they tackle Atalanta BC on Sunday evening.

After being thrashed by Serie A title rivals Napoli last time out in the league, Juve now have a points deduction to deal with; while their visitors have recently burst into life by racking up 13 goals in two games.

We say: Juventus 2-1 Atalanta BC

After both progressed to the cup quarter-finals in midweek, two much-changed sides will be pitched together in a fascinating match-up on Sunday: Atalanta suddenly cannot stop scoring, while Juve have generally been resilient at the back - that hammering at Napoli aside. The troubled hosts are likely to regain their composure, though, and grind out another imperfect win.
