Solskjaer discusses Sancho's Man Utd future amid regular bench concern

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is adamant Jadon Sancho will "come good" at Manchester United despite leaving him on the bench once again.

The summer signing had been a long-term target for the club but he has struggled to make an impact thus far.

Sancho was a huge star for Borussia Dortmund, but is yet to register an assist or score for his new employers.

United have a raft of attacking talent and competition is high, which has meant the winger has made half of his appearances as a sub.

Solskjaer named him on the bench for the draw with Atalanta before bringing him on for the final three minutes.

Sancho's sporadic use has seen some question the transfer, even at this early stage, but the United boss has no concerns over the 21-year-old's long-term future.

He said: "Jadon will come good. He has a great work-rate and attitude, he was really sharp when he came on, the first header he cleared for us and he was sharp on the ball.

"So they'll all have a big role to play and he'll have many, many years as a good player here."

Sancho was an unused sub in the win over Tottenham and the humiliating defeat to Liverpool recently.

His last start came in the reverse at Leicester City back on October 16.

The England international, who Gareth Southgate claimed was fortunate to be named in a recent squad, has been warned by Gary Neville that he could quickly become like Donny van de Beek.

The Dutchman made a rare appearance in the draw at Atalanta but has rarely featured since joining from Ajax last summer.

Van de Beek hasn't made a Premier League start and Sancho is having to find his way in a team still seeking its identity and best XI.

"I can't help thinking about Van de Beek," Neville said on Sky Sports on Saturday. "Who's put their name on him? Who's sponsoring that £40m that's been spent on that kid who's sat in the stands and not kicked a football now for 18 months?

"Sancho, if he's not careful, is going to end up exactly the same.

"Sancho has played in some pretty appalling team performances. He's come into a club that's looked completely disjointed in terms of their football."

Sancho is battling for a start with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial.

Solskjaer has also opted for a change in formation recently which has further dented Sancho's hopes, opting for three central defenders against Tottenham and Atalanta which excludes wingers.
