Saturday's League Two predictions including Stockport vs. MK Dons

sportsmole.co.uk, 23 March 2024, 06:10
Mansfield vs. Colchester (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Mansfield Town play host to Colchester United on Saturday afternoon looking for the win that will strengthen their position at the top of the League Two standings.

Meanwhile, the visitors make the trip to Field Mill only sitting outside of the relegation zone on goal difference and on a prolonged run without a victory.

We say: Mansfield Town 3-1 Colchester United

With Mansfield having been far from perfect in recent weeks, Colchester will sense an opportunity to cause an upset, aware that no-one expects them to avoid defeat. However, we can only back the home side to come through, even if it takes the second half to finally discourage their opponents.

Harrogate vs. Bradford (Saturday, 1.00pm)

Harrogate Town and Bradford City square off on Friday afternoon with both sides aware that only a win will do if they want to retain any hope of making the League Two playoffs.

Although these sides sit in 14th and 17th position in the standings respectively, they are each within seven points of seventh place with a game in hand.

We say: Harrogate Town 2-1 Bradford City

With both teams not in form, this match is difficult to predict, but each side can throw caution to the wind with relegation not a concern. Given that Bradford have lost three games in succession, we are giving the nod to Harrogate, albeit in a hard-fought fixture.

Barrow vs. Newport (Saturday, 3.00pm)

With the playoff fight at the top end of the League Two table heating up, Barrow and Newport County will do battle in a pivotal contest at Holker Street.

Having dropped off the pace in the automatic promotion race, the hosts now sit sixth in England's fourth tier, while their visitors find themselves 11th but are only six points worse off and two points outside of the playoff places.

We say: Barrow 1-1 Newport County

With Barrow left slightly frustrated by consecutive draws and Newport travelling with momentum in the playoff race, we anticipate an intriguing encounter on Saturday and cannot quite pick a winner, instead opting for a low-scoring draw.

Crewe vs. AFC Wimbledon (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both aiming to bounce back from weekend defeats in the fight at the top end of the League Two table, Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon will meet at Gresty Road on Saturday.

The hosts have fallen three points behind the automatic promotion spots due to a dip in their form, while the visitors currently occupy the final playoff place but only lead eighth-placed Walsall by a single point.

We say: Crewe Alexandra 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

In a pivotal contest in the playoff race, Crewe Alexandra will likely fancy themselves to bounce back to winning ways with home advantage against an AFC Wimbledon side missing several key players.

Doncaster vs. Forest Green (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aiming to jump back out of the bottom two in the League Two table, Forest Green Rovers will travel to the Eco-Power Stadium to take on Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The visitors dropped back into the relegation zone on Saturday but only trail Colchester United on goal difference, while their hosts have moved clear of the threat of the drop with an upturn in form in recent weeks.

We say: Doncaster Rovers 2-0 Forest Green Rovers

Facing a tough final run of fixtures, Forest Green Rovers will be desperate to boost their survival hopes with a win on Saturday, but they meet Doncaster at a bad time with McCann's men growing in confidence, and we see the hosts being too strong at the weekend.

Grimsby Town vs. Wrexham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Grimsby Town will welcome Wrexham to Blundell Park on Saturday for a game of major importance at both ends of the League Two table.

The hosts have built a six-point lead over the drop zone thanks to an upturn in form, while their visitors currently occupy the final automatic promotion spot but only lead fourth-placed MK Dons on goal difference.

We say: Grimsby Town 1-1 Wrexham

Wrexham have certainly enjoyed the much stronger season of the two sides and boast more quality throughout their squad, but Grimsby come in with plenty of momentum and are growing in confidence under Artell while their visitors may be faltering slightly, and we can envisage the points being shared at Blundell Park as a result.

Morecambe vs. Gillingham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Two teams competing for a place in the League Two playoff positions will meet on Saturday as Morecambe hosts Gillingham.

A victory for either could potentially propel them into the top seven, but with each heading into this game on the back of winless runs the focus will be on getting back to claiming three points.

We say: Morecambe 1-1 Gillingham

Neither team heads into this match in good form, and that could be reflected in the game itself as both will likely be more cautious because of their performances as late.

Each club is hoping to make a late push into the playoffs, but they could end up sharing the points in this particular fixture.

Notts County vs. Salford City (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Salford City will attempt to secure consecutive victories this Saturday in League Two when they travel to face Notts County, who also head into this match on the back of a win.

Both teams currently sit in the bottom half of the table as they attempt to kick on and make progress in the final stage of the season.

We say: Notts County 2-1 Salford City

Both teams have made improvements to their performances in recent games, therefore they head into this fixture with confidence which should make for a closely contested match.

However, Notts County should have just enough quality to edge through this one as the Magpies are focusing on making a late promotion push.

Sutton vs. Accrington (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bottom of the League Two table Sutton United host mid-table Accrington Stanley at the Falkirk Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are just three points from safety heading into this game but both the teams above them hold the advantage of games in hand, while the visitors are much more comfortable in 16th place.

We say: Sutton United 0-3 Accrington Stanley

While Sutton will be desperate to build upon their previous victory over relegation rivals Forest Green as they look to make ground on the two teams above them, Accrington have proved throughout the course of the season that they are capable of big victories, including a 4-1 win in the previous encounter between these sides.

The hosts have not won in front of their home crowd in the league since a 2-1 victory over Bradford City back in October, and we expect Accrington to keep that poor home form going by beating Sutton in this one.

Tranmere vs. Crawley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Mid-table Tranmere Rovers host playoff hopefuls Crawley Town at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts head into this game free of any relegation concerns, while the visitors are just a point off seventh-placed AFC Wimbledon as they continue their push for the playoff spots.

We say: Tranmere Rovers 1-2 Crawley Town

Tranmere have been brilliant at home for the majority of this season but they have fallen to two defeats at Prenton Park in their last six games, while Crawley have won three of their last four games on the road.

The visitors have been victorious in both of the previous two meetings between these sides, scoring at least two in each of these games, and we expect them to repeat this on Saturday.

Stockport vs. MK Dons (Saturday, 5.15pm)

Separated by just a single point in the League Two rankings, second-placed Stockport County and fourth-placed MK Dons square off in a tie of colossal proportions on Saturday evening.

The hosts' recent plateau continued in a 1-1 draw away to Crawley Town on Monday night, two days after their visitors made light work of Crewe Alexandra in a 3-1 victory.

We say: Stockport County 1-1 MK Dons

Stockport boss Challinor has labelled Saturday's enticing showdown as one that both sides simply have to win, but the hosts' recent failures to convert one point into three and MK Dons' propensity to fall short on the road may put paid to that idea.

The Hatters are certainly nowhere near the force that they were during the earliest months of the campaign, but even with their crisis on the left-hand side of the backline, we can envisage the defensively-sound hosts maintaining their top-three position by taking a point off an MK Dons crop who do not travel well.
