Roy Keane's ruthless Ronaldo Christmas present idea for Jamie Carragher

Roy Keane's argument with Jamie Carragher regarding Cristiano Ronaldo was unmissable TV, and the former Manchester United captain clearly hasn't forgotten.

Things got heated in the Sky Sports studio after United's Premier League draw at Chelsea, in which Ronaldo was left out of the starting line-up by caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

"You don't bring Ronaldo back to Man United to sit on the bench," Keane said during a back-and-forth with Carragher which went on for some time.

The former Liverpool man argued "If you finish 2nd and you then sign Ronaldo at 36, you're not going to win the League in four years. If you sign someone at 36 it's to win right now," and the difference of opinion has stayed with Keane if his latest comments are anything to go by.

Keane was joined by another fellow pundit, former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards, for SkyBet's Driving Home for Christmas YouTube series.

Soon enough, the conversation turned to their colleague Carragher, with Richards asking Keane what he planned to get the former Reds defender for Christmas.

And you got the feeling the studio debate was still playing on Keane's mind when he gave his answer.

"A United jersey with Ronaldo on the back, that'd be nice wouldn't it?" Keane said. "Because he's always slagging him off."

Keane did then soften on Carragher, siding with Richards in the assessment of the former Liverpool man as a decent person with strong opinions.

However, he paused for a second in response to Richards saying Carragher "knows what he's talking about", prompting laughter from his colleague.

"I wouldn't go that far," Keane said with a smile, adding that "He's got an opinion like us all".

The pair also discussed some of their other fellow pundits, with Keane defending his former United teammate Gary Neville after Richards said "he talks too much".

"They were never going to win the league with Ronaldo," Keane said during his November debate with Carragher, prompting his colleague to ask "So what was the point?".

United currently sit outside the top four in the Premier League, having finished second last season, and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the third round.

However, Ronaldo's goals took the team into the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid, while Ralf Rangnick's side have been drawn against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup.

Carragher's former club Liverpool, meanwhile, are second in the league - three points off top spot - after beating United 5-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
