Ronaldo in awe as ex-Man City star scores incredible goal from inside own half

Al Nassr are thrashing Inter Miami in a friendly that had been billed as Ronaldo vs Messi - but neither are playing, though the latter is on the bench.

But there are still fireworks with former City centre-back Laporte scoring an outrageous goal from inside his own half.

After being fouled near his own box, the defender spotted Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender miles off his line and went for goal.

In incredible fashion, the ball absolutely sailed into the top corner with the goalkeeper stranded to put Al Nassr 3-0 up after 12 minutes.

Otavio and Talisca had scored earlier in the contest while Messi watched on from the bench and Ronaldo in the stands at the Kingdom Arena.

The former Manchester United star could not believe his eyes with cameras panning to the forward, who is out injured.

He got out of his chair and held his arms aloft in shock and celebration after witnessing such a strike.

Laporte's goal evoked memories of Xabi Alonso and David Beckham, who also scored in their own halves.

However, the 29-year-old's strike was actually much further back than either of them.

And it comes just days after the Spain international denounced the Saudi Pro League - despite agreeing to an Al Nassr switch last summer from City.

"It is a big change compared to Europe, but in the end it is all about adaptation," said Laporte.

"They have not made it easy for us. In fact, there are many players that are discontented.

"We are working on it every day, negotiating so to speak, and to see if it improves a little because this is something new for them too, having European players who already have a long career.

"Maybe they are not used to this and have to adapt to a little more seriousness."
