Rangers progress to Scottish Cup final at the expense of Celtic

It has been a fantastic week for Rangers, with their progression into a Europa League semi-final confirmed then being followed up by a Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic.

Fatigue was not in the mind of a single Rangers player as they took on the Scottish champions-elect on Sunday afternoon, continuing the excellent run of form the team has been on since Giovanni Van Bronckhorst took over from Steven Gerrard.

Celtic had already recorded two victories over Rangers this season, so it was a case of the Blues having to break a curse that has developed.

It could have been 2-0 to the Hoops, with Cameron Carter-Vickers hitting the crossbar in the 69th minute, yet it was this precise moment where the match turned in Rangers' favour.

Kemar Roofe worked diligently on the right flank, creating room for a cross into the box, which reached Scott Arfield before Joe Hart, and the forward was able to poke a shot beyond the former Manchester City goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty area.

Extra-time began with Rangers playing 120 minutes for the second time in four days, yet they claimed victory in the 115th minute of play through a stroke of good fortune.

A cross into the box was put into his own net by Carl Starfelt who was attempting to clear the ball, setting up a Scottish Cup final between Rangers and Hibernian.
