The Magpies made light work of their Tyne-Wear rivals at the Stadium of Light in their first meeting since March 2016.
A double from Alexander Isak and an own goal from Daniel Ballard gave Eddie Howe an easy win to relieve some pressure and progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
And to really rub salt in the wounds, the Newcastle players and staff congregated on the Stadium of Light pitch to take a team photo.
The Sunderland fans that were still in the ground were left seething while the Newcastle supporters behind the goal were celebrating wildly.
Boos could be loudly heard from the home end directed at the away supporters, where 6,000 Geordies had made the trip down.

While Newcastle certainly lapped up any chance to twist the knife on their local rivals, they were the clear winners at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
