Lingard scores just four minutes into Al Ettifaq friendly as he chases permanent deal

Jesse Lingard did his chances of earning a contract in Saudi Arabia no harm by scoring in a friendly for Steven Gerrard's Al Ettifaq.

The former Manchester United star has been training with the Saudi Pro League side since September, in hope of securing a permanent deal.

Lingard briefly trained with former club West Ham before joining up with Gerrard's side for a trial.

The Hammers opted against rekindling their association with the 30-year-old leaving Lingard to try his hand in the Middle East.

And it took just four minutes for him to make an impression in the friendly encounter with Al Khaldiya, as he got himself on the scoresheet in a match that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Lingard has signed a training contract with the Saudi outfit meaning he is still officially a free agent following his exit from Nottingham Forest during the summer.

Should he continue to impress, a full contract could await the midfielder and a link up with a host of familiar ex-Premier League stars.

Al Ettifaq boast former Liverpool stars Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum, ex-Everton and Leicester winger Demarai Gray and striker Moussa Dembele.

After a promising start to the season, Gerrard's side sit seventh on the table, six-points adrift of leaders Al Hilal and without a win in their last two league fixtures.

Lingard earned 32 caps for England but has been frozen out of the international pictures since 2021.
