'Klopp will be happy now' - Jordan says PL bowing down to player and managers

The match at Elland Road was called off due to COVID cases within the Leeds camp, while Watford's trip to Wolves has also been axed.

Klopp has bemoaned the packed fixture schedule facing his side during the festive period and complained at the fact they had matches on December 26 and then again on December 28.

Now they will have a break before playing Leicester at Anfield next week.

Reacting to the news of the postponement, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan said: "Klopp will be happy now, won't he. The protocols are the protocols and if they've met the requirements of the protocols… they wanted clarity and we both know why they wanted clarity as it was so they could find a way to get the games called off they wanted to get called off.

"Now they've got clarity, you will see the games called off like a deck of cards."

Premier League managers and players are set to meet to thrash out a host of coronavirus issues.

Rising COVID-19 cases across the league have seen nine of the last 20 matches in England's top flight postponed, with other matches only going ahead with depleted squads.

Premier League clubs opted on Monday to continue with the hectic Christmas schedule, while the Carabao Cup quarter-finals were completed on Wednesday.

Jordan added: "We are bowing to the players and managers. They are getting far too much of it. Get on with doing your job.

"You don't need to have players involved in certain conversations and certain things. What you will end up having is the game determined by how certain players want it to look.

"The players are employees playing for football clubs. Football clubs have to manage the wellbeing of their employees against the obligations of a football club.

"Not club wants to put a player in a situation where they can break down. There's no material advantage to it. If you are a manager and your player gets injured, the first thing you will have on your door is them knocking on January 1 saying they need to sign more players.

"I'm saying the manager has a voice with the owners. What next? Are we going to take it down to beneath the players to the kit manager. He's got to have a voice as well because he puts the kit on them."
