Keeper viciously attacked with corner flag as bloodied fan taken to ambulance

A Turkish football fixture between Goztepe and Altay descended into chaos after the Altay goalkeeper was brutally attacked by a fan with the corner flag.

Ozan Evrim Ozenc was the victim of the vicious assault by a fan who snuck up behind him after running round the back of his goal. The supporter was soon tackled to the ground before he could flee.

Ozenc was out of his penalty area while another fan received treatment after an injury, rumoured to be a direct result of a flare being thrown from another part of the crowd, which meant ambulances had already been summoned to the pitch.

Pictures soon emerged on social media of the fan in question being treated by pitchside medics tending to some gruesome looking injuries before being taken off on a stretcher into the back of the ambulance.

The Altay shot-stopper was simply waiting for play to resume when he himself was the victim of the grim altercation. BNN Breaking's Gurbaksh Singh Chahal has claimed that Ozenc was taking to hospital himself after suffering a hemorrhage and a four-centimetre opening in his head.

The fan on the pitch had two swings at Ozenc with the flag before eventually a mix of fans and security were able to stop him, but not before significant damage had already been done.

Those inside the ground watching this unsavoury scene unfold reacted with loud jeers in what marked a grim day for TFF.1 League in Turkey.

Play was suspended in the 25th minute as a result of the incidents on the pitch and in the stand, with home side Goztepe updating their Twitter followers on the ugly debacle.

"We wish a speedy recovery to our fans, who were seriously injured by a flare fired from the Altay away stand," the Twitter statement read. " Those who caused these events WE WANT HE TO BE TRIED WITH THE SEVERE PENALTY!"

The tweets went on, with Goztepe going on to throw further blame at the door of the Altay faithful and claiming two child supporters were injured.

"The situation where the flare thrown by the away tribune and causing the events to start brought our supporters. Anyone who puts this cartridge in the stadium, allows it to be inserted, fires it has a share in the landing of that stick on the head! He is guilty!

"Those who fired that firecracker to the tribunes to kill perfidious people, regardless of their children, and those who turned a blind eye to it, will pay for our two children from Goztepe, who were injured!"
